Alveva Show and Tell

As usual there were many 'Show and Tells' at the meeting.
From the top, Ruby showed us her wish quilt,
all pictures of things she wants to do throughout her life time and
some she has done. Some made us laugh as they were near impossible!
Meg showed us another of her amazing colourful quilts and she had had it
quilted by Jennifer over at Watton
Jennifer is a wonderful long arm quilter and designs patterns
which merge with your quilt and show off the details.
Visit her website
Joy had been on a workshop with Yvonne and brought her friends
from the Sew Much To Do quilting shop from Ely.
They are just so helpful and are putting on workshops in their store.
One of these were held by Yvonne, Medieval Magic.

Alveva Show and Tell

As you can see there was a good selection of quilt styles
shown at Alveva's this month.
Starting with Ruby and her love of colour and finishing
with Yvonne's meticulously pieced Table Runner.
The speaker for the night was Christine Davey.

Sandra's Bags

I encourage 'Show and Tell' at sessions and Sandra showed us
all her bags she had worked on due to the snow.
They were all different and made for different
people.
Well done Sandra! They are fantastic.
I particularly loved the Cherry Bag with the matching purse
and The Cath Kidson bag made from a kit.

March Alveva Meeting

I belong and Chair Alveva Quilters  which meets the third Wednesday of most months in Feltwell, Norfolk. Our speaker had to cancel due to ill health and so, two of our members, Yvonne and Liz stepped into the breach after 'Show and Tell', to give us demonstrations on, 'Screen Printing Basics' and 'Hand Quilting'. Their Talks were really interesting and informative, the group had a lovely evening.

Get Well Wishes to Christine Davey and hopefully she will be able to talk to the group at another time.

See Yvonnes blog at www.yvonnedbrown.blogspot.com
Also see the video she made with Bonnie McCaffrey on my tech site by clicking the link below. It is a fantastic video and Yvonne shows her Medieval Tile Technique.

Alveva Quilters Meeting

On Wednesday the 15th of February Alveva Quilters had their first
evening meeting for 2012. We have held Coffee Mornings
and Work Days during the day since December
because of the Winter Weather.
These meetings have been really lovely for members to get together
and share making and skills.
The evening was based on all the news, 'Show and Tell' from members
and the topic,
"What or What Inspires You?".
Everyone joined in and there was a real variety of ideas
and items.
My favourites were the quilts and an art book,
Carol shared with us written by
John Clare and Carry Akroyd.
It is all based on landscapes and animals.
I was so inspired I ordered it from Amazon.

Coven Quilters Show and Tell

There is always an over achiever in every group,
I say with a giggle!
This month at Coven Quilters it goes to Liz!
She has been quietly finishing off all
her UFO's! and years of quilting her
Wholecloth Quilt has paid off, it's finished.
Just beautiful!!
Well done Liz!

Show and Tell Textile Tuesday

I encourage 'Show and Tell' before the start of each
class session and it is a lovely time to share.
I have found that students instead of cringing
at the thought now look forward to it and
talk more freely about how and what
they have enjoyed about what they have made
but also the pit falls and how they have
solved them. It also encourages others to
have a try at an item they may not have thought
of doing before.
Pat is one of those special students who
always stretches the boundaries and is
always willing to to share her vast experience.
Here she has made a picture for her Grand Daughter,
"All I want for Christmas is a pair of DM'd".
She found the pixie boots at a show and they
look exactly like the pair of boots her Grand Daughter
wants!
Underneath is the photo of the new ATC's
Pat has made, each a wonderful piece
of textile art in their own right.
Well done Pat and Thank you!

Alveva Quilters Meeting 19th October 2011

Wednesday night was Alveva Quilters monthly meeting.
John from the charity Lifeline 4 Chernobyl came
to the meeting to give us a talk on the charity
and advise us on the different ways we can help.
Our group takes on several charities a year to support.
We tend to do local charities so it helps our local
community. Even though this is a local charity
that supports 'The Forgotten People Of Chernobyl",
there are lots of ways we can help other than money.
We are making quilts, knitted teddy bears,
so that every child that need one has one,
collecting warm clothes and other items for the auctions
that are held once a month at Salters Lode.
We are supporting other charities too,
The Brain Tumour Trust, The Litcham Hospice
and The Quilters Guild of Great Britain by
donating £100 towards conservation of a quilt.
(We did this last year too!).
It's nice to know we are enjoying
our hobby and helping other too!
John spoke to us, showed us a video and
answered our questions and then we had
'Show and Tell'.
There were lots but I have showed two photos.
Louise showed us her first machine made quilt,
well done Louise and Barbara showed us her
quilt that is folded at the bottom of the bed.
It is very luxurious almost like something out of a Harem!
Barbara's words not mine.
It was beautiful
and has bells on! say no more!

Alveva Quilters Show and Tell September 2011

We met for Alveva Quilters a week later than normal
because of our Speaker for the month.
There were lots of show and tell,
the top was Liz's Round Robin that she had completed with
Castle Quilters. I love blues and the square and triangles.
Sue has had to put quilting on the back burner for the
last year due to shoulder, neck and back pain.
She has had to have several ops and constant
physio so it was lovely to see all her
Sow and Tells she had made over the Summer.
From the Wall Hanging she won,
Members Choice at The Garden Party
and a Heart Quilt.
She had lovely stories to share with
her crochet and her knitting for the babies
in the family.
The meeting was a lovely catch up aswell as
meeting new quilters.

Alveva Quilters Show and Tell

There is always a variety of show and tell as you can see.
This is even before the main speaker or workshop.

Alveva Quilters Meeting

Once a month on the third Wednesday Alveva Quilters
meets at The Methodist Chapel Hall in Feltwell at 7pm.
We have a really packed couple of hours.
This week we had amazing show and tell from all round the world.
Above Yvonne Brown told us how she grew as a teenager
in Nigeria and showed us some of the items of clothing
her father had been given.
It had been a real honour by the village. The embroidery was
amazing.
The trouser suit above was made by Yvonne, her sister and
Mother with material they used to buy from the
market there. They must have been really trendy!
More show and tell in other posts.
