Kates Birthday

Coven Quilters met at Barbara's this month.
Cathy, Barbara's daughter had found a 1940's
ladies coat in a Vintage Shop in Holt.
We all tried it on, it suited al of us, just showing a
good pattern makes all us women look good.
The linning looked liked the orange silk of parachutes.
More research by Kathy needed.
What a find!
Kate said in a quiet voice,
"Have I forgot someones birthday?"
She had spotted the bunting up on the fireplace.
We giggled, "yours silly" came the reply!
Barbara brought in the birthday cake, candles lit,
big blow and desiccated coconut which Barbara had sprinkled
on the top to make it look pretty everywhere!:)))))
More laughter.
Cake and tea with lots of chat and friendship
and a lovely evening had by all.

Coven Quilters

I do love going to meet up with the girls of  Coven Quilters.
We have so much to catch up on each month and so much to share.
We laugh, cry, put the world to rights
and stitch or knit.
Well, Joan is crocheting at the moment!
Kate has been making a cat quilt for her grand daughter.
Jane has been making lots of baby quilts and
Barbara brought along a quilt that had been donated for
the MS Trust. We had a real discussion on how much a quilt
would sell if it was auctioned and where it could go to
get the best result for the lady who donated it and the trust who
would receive the funds.
It is so hard to predict at the moment due to the times.
I feel now, that you make a quilt for donation and give it.
You know the people you give it to try their best
for their charity and that is all you can do.
Make and give with love and care.
Our best wishes
to Barbara and Mike who are needing TLC at this time and
Thank you to the Coven Girls!

Coven Quilters

Monday evening after teaching C&G I went to Coven Quilters. Kate showed us the two quilts she had made for her Grandsons and the backs were as good as the fronts! We always admire the depth of hand work and design Kate puts into her quilts. Joan has finished lots of UFO's and the third photo from the top shows her finished Sampler which we think she started about six years ago! Greta to see it finished and it looked great. Even though The Sampler quilt is a staple in the Quilting world everyone of them are different!
Jane showed her collection of baby quilts she had made and it was her birthday so of course we had birthday cake!
We always have such a wonderful evening and laugh and share throughout the evening. Best wishes for Barbara and Mike.

Coven Quilters

With being at home in the studio all day it's nice to get out in the evening! Two nights on the trot no less! It was our monthly Coven meeting and as usual there was lots to share and show.  The top photograph is Barbara's door curtain, inspired by seeing mine in the cottage and studio and a picture of one in Kaffe Fasset Patchwork Book. Lots of cot quilts this month. Kate told us of her adventures at a Buckingham Palace Garden Party which she had attended the week before and Joan wowed us with her Jubilee Quilt, just in time for The Jubilee weekend celebrations.

April Coven Quilters

Once a month the Coven Girlies meet up and I love these evenings, they are the best medicine with sharing and laughter. The quilts and cakes we share are spectacular. Jane in the top photograph made her quilt out of a jelly roll pack that she got as a gift for her birthday. Kate showed us how her square quilts were being quilted.
Barbara has nearly finished her Star Quilt and as it is so big, she has sent it off to Jennifer at Watton to be long arm quilted. This quilt was started 10 years ago and is based on my Star Quilt I have made which hangs in my studio. It was also made with home dyed fabrics.
 What a lovely evening.

Coven Lunch

Every year The Coven Quilters have a celebration meal,
to celebrate that we are all together and bring in a new year.
This year we decided to eat out and have our meal at
lunch time!
The Riverside Restaurant is in Kings Lynn.
Near The Arts Centre.
We love getting together and it always makes our week.
This month like any other there is a birthday,
this month it was Barbara W.
I got the girlies to pass the keepsake cushions around
and sign the back with messages.

Photo Keepsakes

On Monday 20th of February I got into my studio
and finished making the Photo Transfer Lace Keepsakes
that I wanted to make the girls of Coven Quilters.
The idea being I would
present them at our Yearly Dinner.
Paddy took our yearly photo on Kate's sofa in January and
I knew I wanted to make something from it to remember
as I have been teaching photo transfer for the last month.
The lace background is all bits of lace, curtains, silks,
satins, ribbon and wool free machined down around the
photo and then made into a cushion filled with lavender
and stuffing.
I was really pleased and signed them all on the back.
The idea being all the girls could sign each one as
it went round the table while we were waiting for our meal.
Making a very special Keepsake.
It was lovely all week knowing we would be meeting for lunch.
We normally meet in the evening!
I'll post photos later.

Coven Quilters Show and Tell

There is always an over achiever in every group,
I say with a giggle!
This month at Coven Quilters it goes to Liz!
She has been quietly finishing off all
her UFO's! and years of quilting her
Wholecloth Quilt has paid off, it's finished.
Just beautiful!!
Well done Liz!

Coven Quilters 14 Years

On Tuesday 17th we had our Coven Quilters meeting.
We have been meeting every month for 14 Years.
We feel so lucky to have made such friendships.
Every January we make the point of taking a group photo
on Kates sofa!
Thank you Paddy for being so patient!
(I am the one sat on the right on the floor!).
We have such a great time,
from the moment we knock on the door,
to the time we leave. I just get in before Cinderella!
This month we were celebrating 'a Coven Christmas',
where we swap our pressies together.
And Jane had a Birthday too!
So cake with candles!
Thank you Girlies for the special time
and lovely memories.

Coven Quilters

Once a month I meet up with a group of
dear friends at Kate and Paddy's house to Quilt and Share.
We are lucky each month we meet we have a
Birthday to or special occasion to celebrate.
This month it was Liz's Birthday and she blew out the
candles in true tradition.
We 'Show and Telled' all evening, laughed as usual
until our sides hurt,
but also did some serious quilting and knitting!
Joan above is hand quilting using a quilting hoop.
Its always lovely to see people enjoying sharing
and creating!

Coven Quilters

Well, I have got Blog catching up to do!
I have had a week of no teaching but catching up
with friends and doing things at a slower pace.
So, last Monday I tided up the studio because
the Coven Quilting Girls came to me for the Summer meeting.
We were missing Barbara as she was getting
ready for her long haul road trip to her daughters in
Cornwall.
As you can see the girls got comfy and my book library
was well and truely gone through!
Lots of laughter and sharing as usual and I made
a lemon cake for refreshments!
I don't make alot of cakes but for the GIRLS!

More Quilts for Chernobyl

Barbara and Liz had kindly made and donated these quilts
for The Lifeline 4 Chernobyl Charity.
As you may know Weeting Quilters have collected over
100 quilts from quilters all over Norfolk and Suffolk.
These quilts will be going out to Belarus in September.
Thank you to everyone for your help.

Joan's Wedding Quilt

Joan has finished Jane and David's Wedding Celebration
Quilt. She had it professionally quilted and was putting on
the bias binding at our Coven Quilters evening.
You can see the quilted dragonfly on the picture above.
Why a dragonfly?
A dragonfly landed on Jane's shoulder while they were
taking the wedding photographs.
So what a lovely addition!

Above Joan the quilt maker!

Joan brought her quilt that she had been making her
daughter and son in law, from all the signed patches and
some of the wedding photographs. Can't believe it's been a year!
It filled Jane's conservatory with us all holding an edge.
It brought back lots of memories and we all found our
patches.
The evening followed with tea and cake!
and a long chat putting the world to rights.
As usual I just got in before Cinderella!

Coven Quilters

I was at Weeting Quilt Group for most of the day,
machine quilting as quick as I could so I could take
my lap quilt to Coven Quilters in the evening and
hand sew the bias binding on!
I feel so lucky with what I am able to do at the moment.
Mixing work with friendship and pleasure.
We met at Jane's and were automatically
drawn to sitting in the conservatory overlooking
her wonderful garden.
Catching up and show and tell.
Above are Baby and Cot Quilts ready for the new
arrivals made by Jane.
