Dresden Plate

Dresden Plate is always a popular pattern at classes and here
Muriel has used up all her scraps to make these wonderful
plates to start off her blocks.
I use the straight top blade method and then machine stitch
across the top, open up and you have a point.
Muriel is going to add them together with
Machine Embroidery Blocks in between.

Patchwork and Quilting Class Knit Wits

I sometimes have a First Monday of the Month, session at Knit Wits. It enables people who are unable to come along to the other classes to bring their projects and have a try at new techniques.
Jenny was finishing off her Dinosaur Quillow Quilt for her Grandson and also made a Mug Bag to take to different meetings that now require you to bring your own.
It's made out of 5"squares and is really easy to make but looks good too!
Mother and Daughter decided to have a try to different versions of Dresden Plate and as you can see there became quite a collection.

Mixed Media Textile Tuesdays

As you can see by the photographs there were a lot of different textiles being created @The Gallery this session. I brought the embellishers in and several people experimented. Jenny embellished circles and then printed over the top of them to add detail. I often print or paint on my base embellishment fabric before I start to add that extra layer. I will be demonstrating more Embellishing technique later.
More Dresden Plates are being made as students decide that want to have a try with another patchwork block technique. Bags being finished and modelled. Mandy's colourful bag at the bottom is her Grand Daughter beach bag and Sue made another beach bag using the circle applique technique I demonstrated a couple of weeks ago. It is made out of all recycled fabrics.

Dresden Plate Week

I have been having time away from blogging but have kept a photo and written diary of day to day creativity. I will now resume my usual blogging routine:)
Above, is some of the wonderful Dresden Plate Blocks created back in a week where I was demonstrating different ways of putting Dresden Plates together. The quick machine points way was very popular as some had tried the old way with curved tops and hadn't got on with it. The machine way gives a quicker and easier way of experiencing Dresden Plate as a pattern and its variations are endless.
Thank you for all the emails an encouragement over the last couple of months.
See the video on my Tech site if you are interested in the technique.

Mini Dresden Plate

With me demonstrating Dresden Plate this month I
love to see the variations made by students.
I have shown how to make it the traditional way,
the quick way and by using the,
'Quick Dresden Rotary Ruler'.
The Dresden Plate above is made with the rotary ruler
and it measures 6" by 6" in total, using up tiny
scraps of fabric.
I especially like it because it uses fabric with
sunflowers on, my favourite flower.

Dresden Plate Workshop for U3A

On the 2nd of March I went to Crimplesham Village Hall
to teach 'Dresden Plate, Sampler Block' to ladies from
Downham market U3A.
U3A for those that don't know stands for,
The University For The Third Age.
A organisation set up for those over the age of 55 to
enjoy sharing knowledge, education, languages and arts.
It was a wonderful day and I taught the traditional
and quick ways of making a Dresden Plate for
The Sampler Quilt which the ladies are making.
Some made them by Machine and others by hand so
it was a very relaxing and productive day.
I loved show and tell with the wonderful
Applique' Quilt made by Pat.
