Shed Building

The weekend of the 30th March, Stewart and I started building the new shed in the place of two little old ones.
Now this is being used as a shed!
With all the winter weather we had, the previous little old ones couldn't stand up by themselves and so the previous weekend they were cleared and Stewart prepared the ground ready for the new.
We built it similar to our studios, so it doesn't look out of place.
The new shed or 'Wendy House' as it's now been named is 16ft by 8ft and the walls 8ft tall then the roof. So we should be able to get lots of truck in there!!!
All of it needs sealing so it has two coats, so took along time, nearly as long to build!
We built it all from scratch, we would recommend a nail gun next time!

Studio Day with Judith and Janice

On Thursday I opened my studio for Janice and Judith
so they could have a Patchwork and Quilting Day.
Janice cut out all her silks into squares last time and sew
and cut them into triangles.
This time she arranged them into the rows and
began sewing the squares together to form the
rows, after we checked there
weren't two triangles directly next to one another.
On the 8ft table,
Judith was putting the borders on her quilt top
and then started piecing the fabric and scraps
together to form a backing.
I worked them both very hard that day!
but they loved it!!!

Studio Day 2nd June 2011

Today I opened my Studio for the first time this year.
I open it from June until end of September sometimes,
even into October depending on the weather.
Today Janice and Judith came along to
make a Scissor Case and enjoy being in the Studio.
We stopped for lunch we ate on the veranda
and then walked down the garden.
It was a lovely day, see their Scissor Cases above.
They are so jewel like.
Beautiful!

Wendy's Quilt

After The Gallery on Tuesday 20th,
I went home and did some more finishing on Wendy's Quilt.
This is Wendy's double sided quilt on my studio table.
I had to finish quilting, bias binding and attached the label.
It is a group quilt. All the members madeall the different blocks
and squares and it was put together like a jigsaw puzzle.
Wendyis an admirer of scrap qilts and double sided ones, so this is what
Alveva members put together, to say thank you for her hard work.
She was presented with it at our Garden Party (see posts).

Sewing a Marquee!

What will I need to sew on my trusty Bernina next?
Stewart and I were given a secondhand 30 foot Marquee last year
but it needed alot of TLC.
Today we got it out, cleared our patio area and began the puzzle
of not only putting it together but then had to make it into
a 24 foot one to fit the patio and use the good pieces,
(lots of the poles were bent and buckled).
It needed a lot of repairs and alterations,
hence my need to use the sewing machine.
It is now up and looks great, just in time for
the Alveva Quilter's Garden Party at ours on
Wednesday Evening.
Hope the sun shines!

Caterpillars on Parade

In my role as a Norfolk Community Artist I have been preparing for
an art session at a local Junior School where I will be using the
these parading caterpillas. I have made 160 packs of them!
There are 84 here on the table!
See my website post for 'The Hungry Caterpilla' board.

Alveva Quilt Day

Wednesday, I spent he whole day putting together a special scrap quilt with
help from the rest of the Clark family (Stewart and Jenn)
and Linda an Alveva member.
It was a real puzzle at times as every patch/block of triangles or
squares had been made by different members of
the Alveva Quilt Group.
They were all different sizes, shapes and some ascue!
Linda walked through the door of the studio and immediately
got machining on my very old but reliable Bernina
and Jenn was on the Janome and Stewart on ironing,
pinning and tea with me!
I machined when one of the two had to move to either
iron or position their piece back in the puzzle.
We finished the front and the centre panel of the back,
cutting out the back border strips ready to sew another time.
Thank you Linda for a fantastic job of squaring up, machining and listening to the constant chatter of the Clark's!
The Quilt will look great and I'll show you it finished at a later date.
Promise!

Pattern Day

Yesterday had a Pattern day with Mum. We both want to make some Summer Jackets. So this entailed working out the what pattern pieces went with which jacket and how we needed to fold and lay the pattern pieces out. We both haven't made clothes for a while so it was a bit like learning a new language all over again. All went well and the toille jackets are now cut out ready to sew together and taylor. We take them to pieces and cut out on our real fabric! Fun!
Mum, Jenn and I all had a lovely 'ladies that lunch' in the conservatory. Baked Butternut Squash with Morrocan Coucous and Roasted Vegetables. Bluebery juice for our drink. Lovely!
Mum and I then went for a walk round the woods opposite us. Two deer were out and the snowdrops are still in full flower.
A really lovely day, Thank you Mum!

Hexgon Quilt Start

It started with a suitcase full of hexagons which needed to be sewn together to raffle for charity. We took up the challenge in June. Each of us took away some hxagons and over sewed them into lozenge shapes. We had a day in my studio to layout the lozenges on my big table and started to sew. We each took a line to sew. Then revealed at our next meet.
