Tuesday Girls Visit to the Studio

Some of my students who attend the Tuesday Mixed Media Classes @The Gallery Dereham came along to visit me in my studio. What a day we had! I did find it funny seven in the studio at a time but five seemed to always in my store room area, how they all got in there I don't know but the photograph proves it, it begs the question. "How many students can you get in Jane's studio?".
We had a lovely lunch on the veranda and they all wandered around the garden.

Dragon Skin Technique

Day two I demonstrated how to make 'Dragon Skin' as it is affectional known as.

Ironing different plastics between baking parchment and then colouring it with 

oil pastels,acrylic paints and Angelina Fibres.

Some of my students came to the studio and brought their husbands too! 

So, three generations inside looking at the work in the studio and the gentlemen enjoying the veranda in the garden. All were more than happy as you can see.

Welcome to my studio

I must admit I crammed a lot of colour in the studio this year!
The studio is not normally as full as this but for Open Studios I dress it in Quilts and Textiles and because it is a working studio all my work areas have the materials and tools ready to demonstrate techniques. Each day I demonstrate a different technique and I have cards detailing how to do it. These are available to buy. I have a list for those who want classes in my studio and in other venues so visitors can sign up to them if they wish. Also on exhibit were the City and Guilds Stitchbooks, a wonderful addition. I Open my studio to students from the end of July. They are day sessions and you can specialise in the techniques you wish to learn or have a taster day of several. Open Studios

The signs went outside the cottage for Norfolk Open Studios and I have been handing out the brochures left right and centre to people. I always enjoy this event either as a participant or a visitor. I have done this event three times before and have had a great time. This year I am in my studio for the whole two weeks so it will also be a delight to be at home. My studio is now open for the Summer.

Shed Building

The weekend of the 30th March, Stewart and I started building the new shed in the place of two little old ones.

Now this is being used as a shed! 

With all the winter weather we had, the previous little old ones couldn't stand up by themselves and so the previous weekend they were cleared and Stewart prepared the ground ready for the new.

We built it similar to our studios, so it doesn't look out of place.

The new shed or 'Wendy House' as it's now been named is 16ft by 8ft and the walls 8ft tall then the roof. So we should be able to get lots of truck in there!!!

All of it needs sealing so it has two coats, so took along time, nearly as long to build!

We built it all from scratch, we would recommend a nail gun next time!

Norfolk Open Studios

The deadline for applications for Norfolk Open Studios

was looming and I had collected all my information together ready.

I now had to fill in the online application!

I have participated in Open Studios several times before and

really enjoyed the experience.

Application, now done and sent the two images above

went with my it along with a short paragraph about my studio space.

One of these images will be chosen for the brochure.

I have chosen images that people recognise as my profile

picture or my business cards so there is some

recognition to the studio.

The Open Studios are from the 26th May through to the

10th June 2012.

I will be working the full two weeks in my studio

through out the event.

Norfolk Open Studios

Monday the 23rd May was Stewart's and mine 24th Wedding Anniversary,

so we would celebrate it on the Sunday.

We decided to go round a few Open Studios and have a late lunch out.

First we went to Print Artist, Zelda Eady's at Mattishall.

The Studio photograph is above.

A wonderful studio set in the middle of fields with sheep in them.

In her studio was all her work and wonderful printing and

relief presses. Works of art in their own time.

Zelda's daughter Ellie had made a giant mobile

of a thousand origami Cranes and it hangs from the ceiling

of Zelda's Studio.

Amazing.

Zelda and her husband shared their time and home and we even got

a tour round their garden which was lovely.

It's great to share time with people and what they love.

Then on to Marion Barnett's 'Little Green Shed'.

Marion's location again is a beautiful one.

Her Studio was very atmospheric with music playing and work

everywhere.

Then on to Elmham House and 'The Big House Artists',

The artists were in the Stables and The Sculpture Trail,

winded around the gardens.

We then finished with a lovely lunch at The Crown, in Gayton.

Gallery Tuesday 18th May 2011

@ The Gallery Dereham is hosting one of the Taster Exhibitions,

for Norfolk's Open Studios this week.

The Gallery looked very different when we went to view on Saturday.

there are eight artist work on show.

Open Studios is always worth visiting and enjoying.

I didn't hold a workshop Tuesday this week because of the taster

and we were away on Holiday in Sussex.

This was the view of our first Studio to visit.

Sally- Ann's Blue German Builders Hut.
It was down her garden next to an amazing amount of beautiful
chickens, ducks and their farm yard.

Norfolk Open Studios

Yesterday myself and Linda Turner, another fibre artist

had a day out visiting some studios around Norfolk.

It was to be a 'Studio Crawl'.

We had a fantastic day out venturing up Norfolk lanes and seeing all

manner of things to inspire and talk about.

We met some amazing artists and enjoyed seeing their studio spaces.

I don't think we stopped talking all day except

for the interuption of the sat nav.

We wouldn't have found half the studios we did without it

and Linda's map reading skills.
