Card Making Friday 13th January 2012

When I got home from Quilt Class on Thursday
there was a message on my answer phone that
there was a space on the card making afternoon
at Gill's Studio in Kings Lynn due to a
cancellation.
I love going to Gill's Card Making Shop and Studio,
as I always have a list of things for card making I can only
get there.
As you can see we had a wonderful time making
this Victorian Lady Aperture card.
Lots of Printing, cutting, making and painting
using Distress Inks.
There was a new lady starting, a complete
beginner and I learnt lots too!
I came away with my stash that grew as I
in my wisdom arrived early to class and
had lots of time to browse!!!!

Card Making Wednesday 11th January 2012

On Wednesday Kim surprised us with two tri-folded shutter and
concertina cards as examples to make.
They looked very intricate to make but we were
soon measuring, folding and cutting.
I chose mine to be very Mediveal in feel.
This is how far I got that morning and I will

Lace Book

Wednesday was card making with Kim @The Gallery.
We were continuing to use the embossed book templates
and add dry embossing to our cards.
Sylvia had kindly given me several books on
card making the day before and it spurred me on
to mix my medias as usual.
I wanted to add lace and metal work.
I went shopping before the class at
Bead this Craft That for lace, pearl beads on a string
and anything that caught my eye.
(I have a craft budget each week to keep me in check an
often add weeks together to save for the larger items!).
See Bead This Craft That's website
We had a wonderful morning and all our cards were
very different. I love learning new skills and then
experimenting with all the different medias.
I will continue this Book Card over several sessions.
I have since found a lady on You Tube who has made
beautiful cards using this technique and medias

Card Making Wednesday October 5th 2011

On Wednesday Kim brought in Embossing Boards
for us to try and I needed to make a card for
nicole's Christening.
I wanted to make a card with the 'N',
similar to the Cushion and Quilt we had
made as the Christening Gifts.
We learnt lots of techniques as usual
and as you can see I made a 'N' card!

Card Making Wednesday 28th September 2011

Wednesday was card making with Kim Crop.
She gave us the challenge of making cards for men!
It's harder than you think because there are only
so many themes that are appropriate.
I chose to make a card with a decoupage sailing ship.
I used lots of layering of stamping and papers.
I even decorated the envelope this time!

Christmas Easel Card Making

On Friday the 23rd of September ,
(as you can see I am a week behind posting due
to me not being tip top and the lovely things still
happening everyday!).
I went to Larna Crafts and Wool Shop in
Downham Market to have a card making workshop
with Elaine. We made an Easel Christmas Card.
My first Christmas Card of the year and I am
sure it will be one of many made!
It was a lovely morning and we all had lots
of fun with cutting, talking and 'GLITTER".

Card Making Wednesday

On Wednesday it was card making class with Kim.
We were given the choice of a quote
and had to make a card from that as our starting point.
This quote resinated with me from my
creative point of view.
The butterfly has been stamped on vellum and
the bottom picture is inside the card flap.
I have also put a detail on the back and signed it.

Edwardian Glove Inspired Card

Wednesday morning was card making with Kim
@The Gallery Dereham.
Kim gave me the challenge of making a card using
images from a vintage picture scraps book.
I used a picture of an Edwardian Lady, a brooch, glove box
and her gloves.
I added the trim from a lace tray cloth and old buttons.
I used a lace trim punch to cut the card base,
it takes some lining up, to cut it out and not
overlap the holes too much.
I enjoyed the mornings and their were new members
having a taster session.
The card just needs it's insert.
Thank you Kim for stretching me again!

Gilded Flowers

On Friday it was chores morning and catching up
on paperwork. When these were finished
I went in the studio and carried on
with the gilding I had started on Wednesday.
Time flies when you are learning something new!
Here is how far I got. Now I just need to
stick and continue with the backgrounds for them.
There is two different ways of gilding here.
Stamp and emboss a piece of card with your pattern,
then using 'size',
paint the areas you want to gild. Allow to almost dry,
it should look tacky. Then put on the flakes all over the area,
brush off any excess with a soft brush.
Do this on to a separate piece of card to save the flakes.
Then continue to brush off the smaller excess pieces,
the pattern is then buffed with a soft tissue.
The other way is to use the double sided sticky
transparent sheets.
(It has the square grids on for card making).
Cut a square out slightly bigger than your flower.
Peel off one side and sick on a peel -off, of your
choice, here I chose flowers.
Place the gilding flakes in the sticky areas and finish
as above. You can then either stick the the square
straight on to a card or cut the shape out.
happy gilding.

Gilding

On Wednesday Kim showed carol and myself how to gild

cards with Gilding Flakes.

I watched and was thinking, well! embossing and

stamping bling normally works why spend the extra

on size and flakes.

How wrong I was,

When you follow the technique through and buff

the gilded area up, ooo, what a shine.

I can see me using this on many different medias.

Above is my practice piece ready to make cards later.

Blue and White China Inspiration

I love Blue and White China and have a Welsh Dresser in my kitchen
full of all different types. I especially like Spode and
The Willow Pattern China.
In the afternoon after the card class had finished
I played around with this blue and white combination.
Kim showed us how to mask sections of our stamps,
you can see, by this card, a vase behind a vase.
When I got home I researched a little more into The Willow Pattern
and here are two videos that I really liked.
The first tells the Legend of The Willow Pattern
and the second is a quick animation.
If you would like to see a really inspiring Chinese Puppet animation
interpreting the Legend almost true to the actual story.

Card Making with Bleach Technique

On Wednesday, I went to card making @ The Gallery with Kim.
There was lots of show and tell with the things we had made over the
last two weeks and a look at a box of stampers goodies,
someone had brought on the Internet.
Kim was continuing to teach us different ways of creating
backgrounds on papers.
This week she knew I would be excited because we used
bleach!
She gave us a demonstration and it was a fantastic, she had put
the bleach into a 'Misty Bottle', so we could spray it
directly onto the rubber stamps and onto our card stock.
Its like a reverse or negative image and then you stamp on top
with colour.
I made lots of different prints and also did some on
fabric as I had used bleach as a 'discharge' before,
(it removes the colour from the fabric).
I will show you what I do with this fabric later.
Thank you Kim, for a lovely morning it was really inspiring.
I carried on at home putting my card together and
adding the bead wiring and embossed element to it.
I have now researched the bleach technique a little more and
here is a video that shows the technique really well.

Stamping Background Papers

On Wednesday I went along to the Gallery as a student
for the Cardmaking class with Kim.
This week, we were learning how to make background papers
for our cards and other projects.
Above, you can see just a small selection of the inks, chalks and stamps
we had to choose from.
Kim is such a good tutor, she showed us postcard sized
backgrounds of her own and told us how they were made.
We then were let loose with our blank postcards
and you can see the backgrounds I came up with.
I knew I would be using the papers in the afternoon
so chose a similar colour palette
except for two!
