PVA, Tissue Fabric

The first Textile Tuesday and Thursday of May,
we were making PVA Tissue Fabric.
It is a popular method of creating an unusual textured fabric and
it can be stitched, decorated, coated and gilded.
You can use any fabric as a base.
We started with sheeting, muslin and
upholstery fabric.
You mix one part PVA glue with two parts water.
Tear up your tissue paper into pieces and
start gluing them onto your fabric,
over lapping slightly.
As soon as you have finished you then add colour.
We used spent procion dyes.
Allow to dry thoroughly and then you can start stitching
and decorating.
If you want it for a book cover you can gild it with metallic rubs,
then seal with acrylic wax or boot polish.
(Boot polish gives a leather look).
Everyone had so much fun.
Sticking gluing and dyeing.

First Textile Tuesday at The Art Room Aldiss Court

OO I can see by adding this photo I am two months behind
posting. Can't believe it's been two months since we moved in to
Aldiss Court. Got lots to share with you.
We moved in on the Saturday and this was the first
"Textile Tuesday" after. So not bad in just three days.
Still a little bare but lots has happened since then and
lots of creative things made.
The Bags were made by Val at a Workshop at Watton
with the 'Hackers Tackers and Stuffers'.

Birds

The previous week at Leisure Classes I taught all things 'Birds'.
These are Carol's versions.
The top used some fabric that Kate had dropped off in some
scrap bags. We love recycling someone else's fabric.
They look very French!

Textile Tuesday

Textile Tuesday always have wonderful 'Show and Tell'.
We do this as a start to the session so that people can share
what they have made and also so I can add the tips and extended ideas.
Carol and Pat had both made cushions out of
upholstery fabric and charm packs.
Beryl made yet another lovely bag and also the flower
looked wonderful as an embellishment.

Textile Classes are always fun and so many amazing textiles are created.
We 'Show and Tell, every session and this inspire others.
I share a technique each week and there are so many techniques
the worlds are oyster.
There's lots off laughter too!

take in her pack back around the world.
She was telling us some of her stories!
I love bag making and I show different ones each month.
The ones above are based on sixteen 5" squares, with
a twist.
What a session!

Carol' Embellishing

Carol has been busy using her Embellisher Machine she got for Christmas.
I introduced Carol to the Embellisher Machine at Textile Tuesdays and on the
Level One Creative Textiles Course.
She has just taken off and made the skill her own.
Using the Embellished fabric as a base
she then adds machine stitch and lots of
embellishments like beads, sequins, buttons and additions.
These additions often take the form of melted plastic and papers!
We do have fun recycling!

Sylvia's Quilt

This is Sylvia, one of the regular Textile Tuesday Ladies.
She loves coming along to the sessions and is such an inspirational lady!
This is the quilt she has made for her Grand Daughter.
The purple just sets off all of the strips of fabrics used.
Sylvia's Grand Daughter chose the design and it is one of those that is going to be timeless.
She has made it reversible too and the strips go through into the pieced binding.
It is going to make a wonderful gift that any of us would love to receive.
Well done Sylvia!
She is now starting another quilt for her son,
so I will keep you posted.

Mixed Media Tuesdays are just that, as you can see by the bag projects above they are all different and thats one of the reasons I love teaching a mixed media class textile because of the variety of things people can create and the many permeations that can come from the same pattern as students adapt the same pattern to make it their own. The chicken was made by Gill and has such attitude and exudes importance in the job he is doing looking after scraps and thread!
See more of what goes on @ The Gallery by clicking the written labels below. If you are interested in joining us on a Tuesday please contact me.

We have been decorating fabrics of all different sorts and using many different techniques over the months and as I had had such an inspiring workshop at the weekend I took another lot of oil bars, pastels and Markel Sticks and fabric media into The Gallery for Textile Tuesday. Soon everyone was busy creating and covering their fabrics with colour and stitch. Jane brought in Ruth Issett's book about 'Paint Sticks' and we all enjoyed looking through the inspirational pages.
