Busy Sewing

We are starting to call Sylvia an 'Elf'.
In the nicest possible way of course as she comes to class with a
bags full of goodies she has made or has been finishing off.
She is also making her Christmas presents each month and as they seem
to be seven or eight at a time due to her many friends,
hence the term Elf!
The little gift purses are ideal for a gift card, jewellery, small
gift and a little note. Each are unique and they are
beautifully finished with the embellished fasteners.
I have been encouraging the finish of items especially with
fasteners. You can make an item look far more by
adding just simple finishes touches such as,
instead of just sewing a pop stud on. It makes an
item look hand made. If you decorate a circle
of felt or fabric and then sew the pop stud onto this it
makes the item look more crafted and expensive.
It also draws less attention  to the press stud!
Which often because of its nature stands out in not a good way!
Sylvia had also made a Kindle Bag and Cot Quilt for a
new baby!
Busy lady and a lovely Elf!

Stitchers at Work

I love catching stitchers at work.
These show total different textile techniques.
Top, Caroline piecing her Jelly roll strip blocks.
Middle, Sylvia getting to grips with a flower stitch foot
and bottom, Judith starting her piecing of a stained glass patchwork.
I love the diversity of Creative Textiles and I feel so lucky to be able
to teach and share.

Sylvia's Quilt

This is Sylvia, one of the regular Textile Tuesday Ladies.
She loves coming along to the sessions and is such an inspirational lady!
This is the quilt she has made for her Grand Daughter.
The purple just sets off all of the strips of fabrics used.
Sylvia's Grand Daughter chose the design and it is one of those that is going to be timeless.
She has made it reversible too and the strips go through into the pieced binding.
It is going to make a wonderful gift that any of us would love to receive.
Well done Sylvia!
She is now starting another quilt for her son,
so I will keep you posted.

Patchwork Folded Bag

Here is Sylvia's folded bag made from a bag of purple and pink scraps.
I love it when a bag of fabric bits makes something really beautiful.
Well done Sylvia!

Gallery Tuesday 24th May 2011

Sylvia is trimming the free machined quilted cot quilt for her
future Great Grand Child.
She began classes in January for the sole purpose
of making a quilt for her expected Great Grand Child then.
She made a beautiful animal quilt and it was given to her
new Great Grand Daughter.
The next month a large envelope arrived in the post
with lots of bits of yellow fabric and some animal squares,
with the plea from her other Grand Daughter who was
expecting.
"Please can you finish this I don't know what to do!"
Sylvia laughed and we made sense of the odd
cut strips and patches already cut out and she put it
all together as you can see above.
I few bits of piecing had to go on for the back!
Sylvia loves Machine Quilting and it looks really great.
It's having red bias binding to finish it off.
A very lovely Great Grandma Gift!

Sylvia is such an inspirational lady and every week
she wants to learn more and I think
everyone learns from Sylvia.
Here she is showing us the applique cards she has made
on her machine.
Sylvia is learning the different ways of Machine Embroidery.
