Dragons Eggs

I made these at the Toftwood Exhibition with a one felting needle tool.
We have affectionately called them 'Dragon Eggs' due to them being
unusual.
The Embellisher is great but is really for 2D work.
Hand felting you can make unusual 3D items.
It takes a little practice and some delft hand movements.

Toftwood Art Exhibition

Pat asked at The Textile Tuesday Class if anyone would
like to demonstrate at the local Art Exhibition.
I said yes. Pat said she was going to take the
Embelisher machine so I thought I would do the
hand felting method so we could show the difference.
People were fascinated we were felting and what we were creating.
It was lovely to share and chat to people at the show.
Sylvia came along in the afternoon and she demonstrated
bobbin lace. Beautiful! This is one of those crafts I am
not going to stray into because I know it will envelope time.
I will just watch and admire :)

Small Bags

Most techniques can lend themselves to making small bags,
these are made by Beryl.
The one on the right is made with embellished sheer fabric and scraps.
Lots of recycled materials make wonderful
surfaces and pattern.

Embellished Flowers

Pat has been Embellishing for a while. She has her own machine.
Theses flowers are just beautiful, based on Poppies.
She had begun them and then got a book on Embellishing for Christmas,
there is a similar picture within it.
You often find this, you are inspired to make something.
Start looking around and you find similar ideas and items.
Pat added some of the techniques the book covered and enhanced
her flowers.
Beautiful.

Carol' Embellishing

Carol has been busy using her Embellisher Machine she got for Christmas.
I introduced Carol to the Embellisher Machine at Textile Tuesdays and on the
Level One Creative Textiles Course.
She has just taken off and made the skill her own.
Using the Embellished fabric as a base
she then adds machine stitch and lots of
embellishments like beads, sequins, buttons and additions.
These additions often take the form of melted plastic and papers!
We do have fun recycling!

of inspiration, wools threads and felt, for the sharing
of a skill.
Everyone that had a go loved creating, the waistcoat
looked fantastic.
The next meeting is on the 17th March

Textile Tuesday 24th January 2012

Lots being created and shared @ The Gallery,
Textile Tuesday class as you can see by the variety above.
Embellishing inspired by rust!
It's alright making samples and trying out techniques,
then sometimes this leads to you wanting to take it further
and make a finished piece which is what
Jenny wants to do over the next weeks.
Barbara had started cutting small family football shirts and
shorts and found it a bit tricky so cut up
bigger ones instead and made the quilt above.
It has a barbed wire fabric on the back
which makes it really fun.
Now she can tackle the smaller ones.
Pat made the delightful bag out of a Chair back Cover
she found in a charity shop, beautiful!

Sara's Finished Work

Sara has worked hard since September
completing several different projects
which take many hours to complete.
They are beautiful!
The Strip Patchwork Butterfly Wall Hanging,
is Sara's first go at scrap bag patchwork and
free machine quilting.
The Pink Notebook was a piece of felt,
embellished using an
Embellisher Machine and lots of lovely
scraps of fabric, then
machine embroidered. Sara then added
more embellishments by hand.
The top photograph is a wall hanging based
on crazy patchwork and a corset shape.
Lots to follow as Sara forms her portfolios
and sketchbooks.

Visitor to the Wednesday Card Making Class

While we were starting to make our cards, Helen
one of my new Students walked in and thought it
was 'Textile Tuesday'. We all had a giggle as we
have all mislaid days at some time or another.
Anyway, she stopped for a cup of tea, chat and showed us
the quilt she is working on, a
Block of the Month called,
'Patchwork Shop'.
The Blocks are a mixture of patchwork, applique and
embroidery. Helen's blocks were beautiful.
She also showed us her finished
Embellished Needlecase she started making the week
before @ The Gallery, 'Textile Tuesday'. It looks great,
Well done! Helen.

Beryl's Embellishment

Beryl had her first session @ The Gallery and
she made some embellished felt. This is a really
good piece and she is going to make a needlecase
out of it and some cards.
Beryl had also brought with her some of her
fabric stash and we had a look through and gave her some
inspiration.
She decided she would like to make a quilt for
her new Grandson.

Embellished Felt

Brenda started last week @The Gallery by
embellishing a background fabric in all blues
with a hint of green.
She had in mind to make her friend a gift which was
so unique and different to anything she had given before.
Brenda had admired the embellished needlecases and
started. Well first session went so quick
for her she embellished her felt and then
mastered embroidery stitches on my sewing machine.
This week was the flowers, leaves and beading.
Inside is lined and has felt pages.
I think it is really beautiful and feels
wonderful to hold.
Her friend is very lucky.
Well done Brenda!

Embellished Needlecase

Stella made an embellished felt needlecase.
She had a very small one which had been made
for her by a Brownie over 20 years ago.
(See picture above)
It was a shame to put this aside so
it was sewn inside the new case.
A lovely item and keepsake.
It made us all smile:)
