Lifeline 4 Chernobyl

On the last Sunday of every month Stewart and I volunteer ourselves
to The Lifeline 4 Chernobyl Charity.
They hold an auction and auction off all the donated items that
have been collected.
We collect all month too from many different sources and deliver on that day to.
We do our bit by raising money making teas, coffee and sandwiches.
Pauline and John live the charity 24/7 and we really do admire their hard work.
It is a very difficult task as most have forgotten the nuclear incident that
happened 26 years ago.

Life Line 4 Chernobyl

Stewart and I have been helping out by making teas, coffees,
bacon and sausage rolls once a month at
The Life Line 4 Chernobyl Auctions since July last year.
We help the rest of the month by advertising,
collecting clothes, shoes and household items.
Stewart also restores bicycles to sell at the auction
and send out to Chernobyl.
Quilts are still needed too!
John and Pauline work every minute of the day
to send aid to Chernobyl to 'The Forgotten People'.
They prepare all month for the auction,
to make them interesting and encourage fund raising.
The big ask at the moment, is a
LORRY!
The last one was so old that it let in water,
it had welds on its welds!
Any info would really help.
The new sponsored signs look great and will be
in window of John's furniture shop in Kings Lynn.

Quilts for Chernobyl

Joan showed us another two quilts she had made with Anne's
material to make up these lap quilts.
They are "Tied Quilted".
(knotted with threads to hold the layers together).
Above are 28 finished quilts so far from several different groups
and there are more promised.
I had the delight of photographing everyone and then as
a group so they will be able to go on a website and in a booklet.
The lorry is taking the quilts and clothing out in September.

Chris Show and Tell

I invited Chris along from Weeting Quilters and some of their
other members to talk about the quilts they are making for
Chernobyl. She brought some of the quilts that have been made
in only one month.
See previous post.
The quilts were wonderful and have inspired some of
Alveva members to collect fabrics and make quilts.
This was a great way of sharing.
We all had n our mind the people of
Japan too!
Sometimes are time needs and wants to be divided into
so many ways.
Best wishes to anyone who is struggling at this
time and for the people who give their time and care to help.

Weeting Quilting Group

I was invited along to Weeting Quilt Group on Monday.

They meet the second Monday of every month at Weeting Community Centre from 11.30am until 3pm. Everyone made me feel very welcome and we were all sewing almost straight away.

Even new ladies whom it was their first time were taken under several peoples wing

and showed how to choose fabric, cut sew and were soon machining strips together.

At lunch time we stopped for lunch of course but also 'Show and Tell'.

The reason I had been invited by Chris the organiser was to join in on a project started by Ann, Chris's dear friend who has just died from cancer, after just 12 weeks after being told.

She wanted to leave a legacy of quilts and quilt making for the victims of The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster. It is 25 years after the event but the land will not be safe for

up to 600 years. Even though people are not living close to the area

the surrounding land is still contaminated.

The children have grown up and because they have had to eat the contaminated food and breathe the air they are having childbirth issues and their life expectancy and conditions mean many are placed in institutions for the rest of their lives.

Ann wanted to help a small local charity at Salters Lode to take warm quilts and

items when they go out to Belarus several times a year. So Chris is fulfilling her friends

wish and she showed us several of the quilts.

There will be a blog shortly so you can see the blog

and Anne's Legacy at work.
