Screen Printing Results

These are so of the results of the day,

fantastic. 

There is a mixture of wood block, printing plates and screen printing.

The combination makes for really interesting fabric.

Printing Blocks

I have been using different forms of printing in my work for many years and really enjoy making my own stamps, stencils and blocks. Stewart had made me some of the wooden blocks and throughout Open Studios these had been selling. One morning while demonstrating printing an idea for a printing project involving multiple blocks and wouldn't it be nice if they were in their own tray, like the old printers used to have. We had received a tray with mixed fruit and nuts for Christmas and I had saved it thinking it would come in for beads. I asked Stewart if he could make block stamps for each compartment thinking that was simple. He said yes but soon came back saying'Would you like a cup of tea?" I thought this was strange so soon after taking the tray so asked, "What's wrong?" "Do you know that everyone one of those compartments is a different size and some aren't completely square or rectangle!?" ooo but as you can see several hours later he did come back and I have had to punch stamp numbers on them so they go back in their own compartment! What a beautiful set it has turned out to be, all ready for me to design the stamps on the other side.

Transfer Photographs and Print Onto Fabric

This month I have taken the printer and prepared

fabric into classes so students could experiment with

photo transfer on an ordinary printer.I explained how they

could have a go at home if they wanted.

There has been so many wonderful photos and

pictures come in for transfer with stories and

memories attached.

I love the sharing of creating!

These fabric images are now being made into

wall hangings, cushions, albums and keepsakes.

Just lovely!

Photos onto Fabric

This week I took the printer in again so that students

could learn how to put their photos and pictures

onto fabric. There are lots of ways of transferring

images onto material but I like using prepared fabric

and an ink jet printer.

The images were of varied things including

fruit and veg labels (above), photographs, etchings and

original artwork.

Everyone learnt the art of preparation and patience!

I will be taking the printer in all of February.

Wednesday the 4th was Card Making @The Gallery

with Kim.

We were all feeling a little groggy to get started back

to class but look at what I created!

Kim showed us lots of ways of folding cards,

using different sizes.

Kim also brought in lots of inspirational papers,

I chose the lace ones!

It was good to be card making again,

Inked daisy Collagraph

I am trying out the new press @ The Gallery Dereham

in readiness for the new printing courses which will be running shortly.

Play time at the moment to see what the little press and we can do.

Here is the Daisy collagraph after it printed 5 little prints.

I will be teaching 'Printing Little Gems',

from September.

I really love the collagraph plates too!

I think I can see a lots more variations off this collagraph.

Daisy Collagraph

My little collagraph of daisy's is 2.5" by 5"

and I made it this afternoon.

It consists of card,torn paper,net,sequins and threads from the bin!

It was dried very quickly in the heat of the sun and a blast with a heat gun.

I liked the plates to look as good as the prints.

Setting up the press gave me a great chance to try out the waterbased inks.

Printing Press Arrives

A couple of weeks ago a new little portable printing press arrived
@ The Gallery, with great excitment.
It was put together and given a temporary home in Hadyn's Den!
I managed to get the chance to set it up today for printing
and had a printing session this afternoon.

I have a larger version in my studio,

which presets slightly differently.

Arts @ The Tabernacle

Next Studio on our 'mission' was

Arts @ The Tabernacle a converted chapel into a

contemporary home which was exhibiting the work

of several contemporary artists.

Sue Maddocks,

Alasdair Hadden,

Sally Ann Logan,

Louise Walker

and Fiona Johnson.

In the 'Moorish' stlye courtyard was recyled art

made from beer cans, really clever.

Inside the impressive contemporary interior the

space was a welcoming Gallery area.

We admired the work and spoke to Sally

who is a local printmaker and teacher.
