Fat Quarters

These are the fat quarters I was brought for Alveva Quilters

fabric box. We also have them as our raffle prizes so the box

needs regular stocking up.

Stewart helped me choose them from the different

fat quarter tubs around the hut.

It has to be a mixture so there is something for

everyone's taste.

So what is a fat quarter?

The best way to explain this is, you take a metre

or yard of fabric and when you divide it normally into the

four divisions across, these would be "long quarters'.

They are 25 cms wide by how ever long the fabric is

but when you cut the yard or metre in half

and then halve it fat ways you have four large rectangles or

what Quilters call "Fat Quarters".

Chilford Quilt Show

Mum and I went off to Chilford Quilt Show yesterday. As usual there was so much inspiration and things to spark off new projects. The Quilts on display were a mixture of traditional and contemporary. Mum and I admired the vast amount of group quilts from The Beckenham Quilters,30 years worth! http://www.beckenhamquilters.com/ and the quilts of 'World Inspiration' by Pamela Archibald http://www.patarchibald.com/ were so inspiring. Roy Dickinsons 'Engineering Quilts' were very clever and you found different characters every time you looked.

Each and every stall and demonstrator had treasures for you to admire but I was drawn to 'The Rich Picking' bags of courturier fabrics and work of Jennifer Trollope.
Visit her website for some luxurious inspiration.
Thank you to the organisers and participants for making it such a wonderful event to visit.

Fabric for Baby Lexi

My friend Michelle who I went to College with is having a baby girl due on the 18th of Feb but as we all know they choose their own time to come into the world.
Michelle has just brought her carrycot/pushchair and of course it needs some nice bedding to go with it. The pushchair/carrycot is one of those new fangle things that opens and closes needing a science degree but looks very modern with a hot pink go faster stripe down the middle!
This is Michelle's first girl and Cori her son is 15,
Ooooo, Michelle is in for some fun!!!!!!
Fabric washed and ready so I am busy making a quilt today and Michelle is having back niggles!!.

New heels for my boots, ordered some buisness cards, ooh normally make my own but I need some photo ones for
The Gallery!
But our best shop was the fabric shop! I needed some sheers. So armed with a small leaf from the flower dec, Jenn and I had great fun feeling and pulling out all the sheer fabrics! Then onto the bead and braid sections and of course paint and glitter!
We don't get out much together to play as you can tell so we had lunch too! Pizza!
I will look to my figure, another day!

Shian's Fabric Scout Hut

You can see our pile of fabrics on the bolts ready to be cut on the right and Shian busy cutting wadding. The fabric is for a suprise quilt the group is making.
There were specials on jelly rolls and Moda packs aswell as Christmas fabrics. We liked the fat Quarter tub because they were all £1.
All in all a good retail experience beause we followed this with a spot of lunch in a Tea Shop!
