Workshop Day at Weeting

On Saturday the 1st of October I went to the Workshop Day

at Weeting. There were four different workshops

going on in the hall.

Beading with Doris.

Sugarcraft with Sue.

Christmas Baubles with another Sue

and Bag Making with Viv.

I was attending the bag making.

A Japanese Bag with ties and twists!

As you can see by the photos it was a

very creative day and even though it was so

hot everyone had a lovely day.

Christening Quilt

On Friday the 30th I cut out the pieces for a

Christening Quilt for Jennifer's God Mother's

Daughter, Nicole.

We are going to the Christening with the family in a few weeks time.

Thursday 29th September at Knit Wits Quilt Day

At Knit Wits of Dereham on the 29th it was

Quilt Making Day for beginners and experts alike.

Everyone had their ideas for their quilts and finishing

ones off.

Above top, the pink squares and triangles were made

into blocks out of scraps left over from making banners.

Janice finished putting the borders on her silk quilt.

It's now ready for backing and quilting.

Thank you to Janice too, for re-stringing my pearls!

I immediately put them on, lovely!

Helen started the Bishops Tile Wall Hanging above

and as you can see people are also

bringing in the book covers which they have made.

I have taught for a complete month at

Knit Wits, it has gone so quickly and I have met some amazing

people.

Yvonne Brown's Talk at Alveva Quilters September Meeting

We were lucky at the September Alveva Meeting as we

had Yvonne Brown gives us a talk on her

trip to New Zealand for the Quilt Symposium.

She was one of the Tutors at the event.

Yvonne was the originator of

Alveva Quilters and is also our President.

She has contributed so much to

Patchwork and Quilting.

She showed us slides of her trip and showed

us some of her new work including a commission piece

based on the Sutton Hoo Helmet.

Yvonne had also brought along

several copies of her book,

'Tex-tiles and other Treasure:

Using Medieval Tiles and Stonework'.

I brought a copy and she kindly signed it

for me!

I highly recommend it if you want to

experiment with heat and soldering techniques.

Alveva Quilters Show and Tell September 2011

We met for Alveva Quilters a week later than normal

because of our Speaker for the month.

There were lots of show and tell,

the top was Liz's Round Robin that she had completed with

Castle Quilters. I love blues and the square and triangles.

Sue has had to put quilting on the back burner for the

last year due to shoulder, neck and back pain.

She has had to have several ops and constant

physio so it was lovely to see all her

Sow and Tells she had made over the Summer.

From the Wall Hanging she won,

Members Choice at The Garden Party

and a Heart Quilt.

She had lovely stories to share with

her crochet and her knitting for the babies

in the family.

The meeting was a lovely catch up aswell as

meeting new quilters.

Visitor to the Wednesday Card Making Class

While we were starting to make our cards, Helen

one of my new Students walked in and thought it

was 'Textile Tuesday'. We all had a giggle as we

have all mislaid days at some time or another.

Anyway, she stopped for a cup of tea, chat and showed us

the quilt she is working on, a

Block of the Month called,

'Patchwork Shop'.

The Blocks are a mixture of patchwork, applique and

embroidery. Helen's blocks were beautiful.

She also showed us her finished

Embellished Needlecase she started making the week

before @ The Gallery, 'Textile Tuesday'. It looks great,

Card Making Wednesday 28th September 2011

Wednesday was card making with Kim Crop.

She gave us the challenge of making cards for men!

It's harder than you think because there are only

so many themes that are appropriate.

I chose to make a card with a decoupage sailing ship.

I used lots of layering of stamping and papers.

I even decorated the envelope this time!

Jeanette's Green Box

Jeanette's mixed media box is now taking shape.

It's taken a while and a few trials and errors for

it to take shape. Over enthusiasm, with a heat gun

saw the first model being cut up but as you can

see it has been out to good use in the

'window' sections of the box.

Sometimes it is hard for people to see a

3D object come together when you have

to work on the 2D to begin with, so that

all the pieces come together. There is

lots of trialling of trimmings and techniques

before the right combination shows itself.

Jeanette and I have alot of patience so

Mixed Media pieces like the,

'Green Treasure Box', slowly

evolve over weeks.

There is alot of machine and hand stitching in this piece.

Lots of trimmings and snippets to add

the interesting details.

Sara Working Hard

Sara has been coming to The Gallery for a month and has

done so much in that short time.

Sara has chosen the theme of Butterflies and

has created so many lovely pages for her sketchbooks

and for future inspiration.

The piece at the top is the cover for a sketchbook

where you add your own pages.

The fabric for the striped patchwork came straight

out of the scrap bag and Sara had her first go at

Free Machining she is a natural!

So watch this space!

Gallery Day 27th September

There are so many different ideas and projects

going on, at 'Textile Tuesday @The Gallery",

It's wonderful to be teaching so many

creative techniques with willing and talented students.

Christmas is definitely coming as students are

making Christmas Runners and thinking of

gifts for family and friends.

Sylvia has finished her first one (top) and she is now

making a stripped white and gold one

with lots of stitching.

Beryl above is sewing her blocks together.

Coven Quilters Another Birthday

After spending a day with Judith and Janice Quilting,

I went off in the evening to Coven Quilters at Kate's.

It's was still September so we celebrated my

Birthday again! Cake, prezzies and laughter too!

I feel so lucky to have such lovely friends and do

the things I do! Thank you!

September Studio Day with Judith and Janice

On the 26th of September I had a lovely day in my Studio

with Judith and Janice.

Judith finished off the back of her 8ft by 6ft quilt,

as you can see it fills my quilt table.

We had fun using up every last scrap for the back!

it was almost like making another quilt!

Judith is also finishing off a baby quilt for a gift.

Janice finished putting the triangles together for

her silk quilt and then started putting the sashes around

the centre panel.

Chernobyl Auction

Sunday 25th of September Stewart and I were

on Kitchen Duty at the Chernobyl Auction.

It happens every month to raise money for the

lorries to take supplies to the,

'Forgotten People of Chernobyl'.

John was back on the podium as Auctioneer

and it was lovely to see.

Painting The House

Saturday 24th of September we decided to paint

the front of the cottage. It is the only side of the house

that hasn't got any roses or clematis growing up it so

it is easy to do and it's the shortest side!

House painting isn't quite my idea of fun because of

all the prep work but the lemon yellow was

lovely and sun shiny!

Great in the winter to cheer you up when you

come home from work.

We have always liked the cottage because by

looking at the front you would never know

what is being created behind!!!!

Christmas Easel Card Making

On Friday the 23rd of September ,

(as you can see I am a week behind posting due

to me not being tip top and the lovely things still

happening everyday!).

I went to Larna Crafts and Wool Shop in

Downham Market to have a card making workshop

with Elaine. We made an Easel Christmas Card.

My first Christmas Card of the year and I am

sure it will be one of many made!

It was a lovely morning and we all had lots

of fun with cutting, talking and 'GLITTER".
