Patchwork and Quilting Class

Thursday at Knitwits is Patchwork and Quilting Day. There are two sessions and there is different inspiration each month and session. Ann finished her amazing red strip block wall hanging. There is a lot of stitch and embellishing on it. A real work of art. This week I also demonstrate how to make yo yo flowers. Classes start again in September. Seethe session list  HERE 

Sewing Tidies and Sewing Machine Mat

When new students come to class they often see lots of 'Show and Tell' and what they thought they wanted to make immediately often changes. Two such new students came along and this is what happened to them too and so they wanted to make the sewing tidies above and then go onto the sewing machine mat to. As you can see they are really useful and fun items to have as part of your sewing kit.

Princess Cushion

Thursday Patchwork and Quilting Class always has a lot of show and tell. The classes are very popular as students can make their own projects and as you can see Ann has made a start on a floor cushion for her granddaughter making her the feature! Beautiful! This is another successful item combining patchwork and photo transfer.
 The stripped patchwork and quilted runner was made by Ann's Mum, so you can see it is often a three generation class. The cushion has been finished and the Little Princess loves it.

Quilt Making Classes

Quilt making Thursday is the last Thursday of every month at Knitwits. It is always full of lots of creative activity with quilts being designed and ones well on their way to be completed as you can see by the photographs above. Claire works at Knitwits and on her day off often comes along to class to move her projects onto the next stage. Here, she is making a double quilt using Japanese Style fabrics that you can buy from Knitwits. They have a vast selection and vary in price too! Remember there is are classes every Thursday with different inspiration each week and month.

Knit Wits Afternoon Session

After the morning full on with the children machining it was lovely to see the different projects that had been brought along to finish. Ann was adding the border to her grand daughters floor cushion. The lovely detail about the cushion is, Ann had photo transferred a picture of her grand daughter dressed up as a Princess and had appliqued it in front of the appliqued pink castle. The surrounding blocks contained fabrics with shoes, handbags, jewelry and butterflies.
Mandy was putting the finishing touches to one of the sun dresses she was making for her grand daughter. What a lovely dress.
Knit Wits is now selling dressmaking patterns.

Textile Boxes for Children

On the 5th of April during the school holidays myself and Margaret another Quilter and one Mum had a session for children from the age of 7-12 years. It was to see if there is an interest for Young budding quilters in the area. There was 5 willing participants and each made a fabric box.
There was choosing fabric, cutting up jeans, cutting and bonding pictures then sewing on the sewing machine.
As you can see by the results they all finished and had a wonderful morning. There is always the comedian and put theirs on their head! :)
It would be lovely to do some more of these. 

Knit Wits Class

After a really wonderful holiday in Dorset for the last week I am re-energised and ready to go again. I will post about our holiday later as it was one with a difference.
I have continued to keep a photo and journal diary everyday so I am then able to blog later! and I mean blog later! these photos were taken at the end of March!
It was a Knit Wit Patchwork session on a Thursday and it had been sessions for finishing things off and getting to grips with those UFO's
Judith put together the 'quilt as you go', blocks for her Sampler Quilt and others were finishing off gifts such as Anniversary Presents and the Union Jack is the centre of a quilt for Jenny's daughter.
Ann and Liz were so happy to finish their bags and modelled them beautifully.

Enjoying Classes

Classes are always fun and and you can see they make

a lot too!

Lots of free motion quilting being tried this month

as confidence has increased with using their machines.

I love to see all the different fabrics and encourage

recycling. The Floral Bags at the top are

made with recycled fabrics and are beautiful.

Knit Wits Evening March Class

It seems ages since I last blogged and so many lovely classes

and items have been made, its lovely to be able to

share and show you.

Evening class at Knit Wits in Dereham is the first

Wednesday of every month.

This months inspiration is Circles, Curves and Bags.

Lots have bags have been made but Tea Cosys seem

to be very popular too!

It was all about fabrics with these projects.

Mandy used a ready printed patchwork squares fabric

but by cutting it on the diagonal and then putting a vertical

strip of the fabric gave a added interest to the bag.

Which is in use and several people have asked her

where she brought it and are pleasantly surprised

when she says she made it herself.

Polymer Clay Workshop

On Saturday 3rd I went to a Polymer Clay Workshop

at Knit Wits in Dereham.

It's lovely being a student and being all

excited about what the day will bring and

not knowing what to expect.

Trish and Karen were fantastic teachers.

They demonstrated and shared so much we were

itching to get on making the buttons and beads.

They showed us how to use all the equipment and

were to hand to show the next techniques.

Everyone had a great time and made wow stuff.

I say wow stuff because every time you turned round

and looked at someone elses creation you went

"WOW".

I had to leave early so I could travel down to a family

surprise party, the class was hard for me to leave

so you can tell how good it was.

Knit Wits Quilt Making

Some students at Knit Wits are making a quilts,

so it is taking many sessions to complete.

Jenny is making hers out of recycled fabrics.

Jenny has never made anything this size before so it takes

encouragement from all.

It was lovely this week to be able to lay out

the large blocks and start to join them together to form

the strips. It wont be long now before Jenny is layering her quilt

ready for quilting.

!st February Evening Class Knit Wits

Once a month I teach a Wednesday Evening class at Knit Wits,

in Dereham.

It is always well attended and the projects being made

are varied.

I encourage 'Show and Tell' and you can see

a Reading Cushion made by Ann at the bottom of this post,

what a lovely gift for a child.

Lots of cutting out and finishing own projects going on and

the time goes so quick.

The letter quilt was made from a printed panel.

Each letter had to be cut out separately and

measurements had to be checked to make the squares.

Panels can be great but it often what you do with them

that makes the difference.

Silk Quilts and Stitch

Some of my Students come along once a month

to continue their quilt making or enjoy learning

a new technique.

Here Janice shows off her Silk Quilt, a real beauty.

It is made all from triangles and quilted by hand.

Janice is now making a quilted bed runner.

Stripes

These are mother and daughter projects. Mother is making a

table runner in blue and purple strips and daughter

is making a 24" by 56" striped wall hanging in rich colours and

fabrics. lots of textures and trimmings.

Very different ideas but the same technique.

Quilts Making at Knit Wits

The last Thursday Quilting Session of the month is,

'Quilting and Patchwork Quilts'. This session

encourages students to tackle new techniques or Quilts

with help.

Above, are a variety of quilting styles, the top,

the beginning of a Sampler Quilt. Each week you learn

a different block, technique and this particular one is a,

'Quilt as You Go'.

The middle pictures are the start of a Rustic 9 patch,

made from a jelly roll and left over scraps.

It is often wise if you are not sure if your

colours go together, is to lay them together or

make a colour swatch, like the one above.

The Blue Windmill Triangle piece is a Sewing Machine Mat

and practices cutting and piecing triangles.
