Bolliwood Turrets

Jeanette is layering her Bolliwood Turrets so they are 3D.
If you look at the two pictures you will may just
spot the difference.....
The door decoration has been changed.
The small bells which are in the picture directly above
were a little too big and heavy for the piece.
So, Jeanette took them off and sewed the
sequins and beads on instead.
They really do the trick!
This is going to be an amazing finished piece.

Textile Dream Tree

Pippa has now cut out her textile tree
and is working on the mixed media background.
Next week it is adding in the leaves and "Grounding",
the tree and then the adding
of all the wonderful objects to hang from the
branches.
Dreams and wishes as well as
pieces with special meaning.
I love these pieces where artists can explore their
creativity and learn techniques which they can
develop later in other pieces.
Pippa is really getting to grips with her
sewing machine which was on her
wish list to learn.
Keep watching!

Wallhanging

Stella is making a wallhanging for her Grand Daughter's
birthday.
It has to be very contemporary and within certain
colour restraints due to the decoration in the intended's home.
It also contains Stella's Daughter's dress, so there
is going to be a heritage piece too!
(It is the white material with the black flowers).
All the fabrics were vintage or recycled so
it's clever aswell!
I always like quilts that follow the tradition
of patchwork and quilting.

Embellished Needlecase

Stella made an embellished felt needlecase.
She had a very small one which had been made
for her by a Brownie over 20 years ago.
(See picture above)
It was a shame to put this aside so
it was sewn inside the new case.
A lovely item and keepsake.
It made us all smile:)

Gallery Day 8th March 2011

Carol is beginning a new wallhanging using a 1930's
window as inspiration.
She is using the "Stained Glass Window" patchwork technique.
Here it is all cut out and ready for the bias binding that goes
in between the pieces to make it look like a stained glass
window.
This will look very striking when it's finished.
Well done, Carol.

Notebook Covers

With the India Inspired Banner in mind
I have been delving into my scrapbag of ribbon like fabrics.
I will admit I do sort my scraps into colours or projects so
I can return and make other items from them.
(I think everyone has their favourite media or colour range).
So the scraps are all sewed together with
machine stitch and then machine embroidered
over the top of this.
Embellished with thread and more stitches.

Indian Banner

This is one of my Banner Quilts which was inspired by travels
to India. This in turn has inspired me
to make some sketchbook covers.

Art Inspiration

It is sometimes good to go back to some of your favourite art pieces
when you are practising particular media.
I have used the Vintage Envelopes I made last year and my
Vintage Lace Collages as a
starting point and added it to the Inspiration from the
'Textile In Focus', exhibition.
Alongside ingredients I had in my stash to make
a 'Paper and Stitch', collaged journal cover.

Coven Quilters with Kate's Quilt

This quilt has been another labour of love for Kate.
Machine pieced with many African fabrics.
Kate is now in the process of hand quilting it.
Kate had it basted together
(quilt front, wadding and backing put together)
by Jenny at Harmony Quilting
in Watton, Norfolk.
It has been done so well it will make
quilting so much easier.
I would have struggled even with my 8 ft table!
The quilt is for Kate's son.
Ooo isn't he lucky.
We are persuading Kate to put it in for the
Summer Samphire Exhibition as
work in progress!

Kate's Reversable Quilt

Kate has made a truly reversible quilt
using Kaffe Fasset fabrics .
She is showing the back of the quilt in the first picture.
It is made up of 2" squares.
(finished,so you start by cutting a 2.5" square).
The front are large 10" squares and everyone of them has a message
on them which quests at her Birthday wrote and
Kate then Hand Embroidered.
See previous post for details.
Wow, Kate well done!

Kate's Birthday Quilt

Bess loves quilts and of course, helping you look for names!

Tea and Cake

We were lucky at this month's meeting of Coven to be celebrating
two birthdays as our meeting date feel after both of them.
Now Kate is wonderful and makes a cake each meeting.
We have tea and cake in her wonderful
Victorian style Conservatory which looks over her
beautiful town garden.
Kate always plays 'Mum' too!
There were two cakes this time,
Coffee and Walnut or Cherry and Cream Sponge.
Beautiful! some had a slice of both!
(I can't talk because one of them was me!!!)
The years really fly by,
we have been meeting for over 12 years now,
what wonderful memories!

Jellyroll Quilt Top

Jane got a Jellyroll pack of fabrics and a Jellyroll book
from the Coven members for Birthday
and here is the quilt top she has made with it.
The jelly roll fabric made the centre panel
and she added what fabric she had to the border.
We all liked the 1950's feel of this quilt it's so
fresh looking.
Then there was the discussion about the back!
should it be a sheet or a pieced back.
We all agreed that you appreciate a pieced
patterned back rather than a plain sheet!
patterned fabric also hides some quilting
hic cups!!! not that we have those, do we?
