Jeanetta Sculpiturio

I put on exhibit @The Gallery my new mixed media sculpture,
'Jeanetta Sculpiturio'.
It is a column 6ft tall and 16' wide.
Inspired by architecture, Venice,
intricate surfaces, jewellery and
Jeanette, one of my students!
Jeanette makes wonderful mixed media textile pieces
such as 'Bolliwood' and 'Leaves'.
See HERE
She also makes
intricate textile boxes.
Jeanette starts in a similar way to I do, with the inspiration.
Then collects lots of medias together and then compiles
ideas and sections together.
Where we differ and what makes me chuckle is,
Jeanette hates painting and getting messy!
I love paint, inks and getting stuck in with gooeyness!
I will work on this with her as she has expressed
that she wants to make a section of the sculpture
which has painted lace arches on, so we shall see!

Jeanette's New Project

As you may know Jeanette has made and finished some amazing
textile pieces such as 'Leaves' and 'Bolliwood',
she is now started making a decorative box made
with the a new selection of fabrics and trimmings.
Everyone was eager to see what colour she had chosen
and when she revealed her new colour was a beautiful lime
green it got everyone talking.

Jeanette is building up her picture with the mixed media
textile leaves now.
You sometimes get to a stage where you can't see where
a piece is going or how to move it on.
When she un wrapped it there was a wow! from those
in the Gallery but Jeanette wasn't happy with how the piece
looked. We analysed it and it was too flat.
and needed a focus.
Yes, it looked like falling leaves but it needed a focal point
and lift. Jeanette and I spent a few hours
working out focal areas and making the piece 3D.
Jeanette makes fantastic 3D textile artworks.
her most recent, "Bolliwood", was entered into an art show
and was well received.
Keep persevering Jeanette it is working!

Mixed Media Autumn Backgrounds

Jeanette is making a mixed media leaf wall hanging and
needed the background for her wonderful
embroidered leaves.
She really doesn't enjoy painting because like some
of us she was put off art by an art teacher who didn't like her
and told her she couldn't do it. That teacher was wrong!!!
Jeanette produces fantastic mixed media pieces,
one of which being 'Bolliwood Turrets'.
She was really out of her comfort zone when
I lay out a piece of plastic,
put a piece of calico on it and arranged, paints, PVA, cotton wool,
swabs, rubber gloves and an apron on the table.
After we all had a little laugh at her impression of a
mad surgeon she got to work through
'gritted teeth'!
It went outside the Gallery to dry with bricks and a flower pot
to hold it down, much to the interest of customers.
Forty minutes later Jeanette was at the machine
with wools and a machine that didn't want to play!
(they always know when you are trying something new!)
With perseverance the wools were zig zagged on to
form the bark layers.
As you can see above with the leaves on top with
the background showing through it is going to
look quite something.

Machine Embroidered Leaves

Jeanette's new mixed media textile work is based on Autumn Leaves and
is inspired by a community wallhanging picture she saw in a magazine.
She wants to learn many different ways of making leaves and
Next week is printing and painting the background
fabric to the work and designing more foliage.

Bolliwood Changes

This is Jeanette's 'Bolliwood Turrets' textile she is working on
at the moment.
The door decoration has changed again this week because
if you compare with the previous 'Bolliwood' posts,
the door, still was'nt right.
Jeanette has also added the leaf vine and embroidery
and of course the Elephants and their
background. It really is
a beautiful piece.
(To see more detail click on the image).

Bolliwood Turrets

Jeanette is layering her Bolliwood Turrets so they are 3D.
If you look at the two pictures you will may just
spot the difference.....
The door decoration has been changed.
The small bells which are in the picture directly above
were a little too big and heavy for the piece.
So, Jeanette took them off and sewed the
sequins and beads on instead.
They really do the trick!
This is going to be an amazing finished piece.
