Metal Mystic 'Blue' Planning

This is the planning stage of the second wallhanging from
'The Appothecary's Garden',
called, Metal Mystic, 'Blue'.
It's made with my own dyed fabrics and commercial ones I have adapted.
The metal decorations are pieces of alluminium.
I have embossed stained and stamped them.

Metal Mystic 1 Copper

So here is one of 'The Metal Mystic' wallhangings finished.
'Copper'
It measures 14'' by 15''.
Inspired by metal and the the work of Appothercary's of ancient times.
I have enjoyed making the wallhangings as and when,
adding to them and sewing bit by bit
like a potions or recipes.

Metal Mystic 1 Back

This is the back of 'The Metal Mystic 1 Copper'.
The piece is dated, signed and I have also written a quote,
'Art is healing......The journey is the Inspiration'
I heard it on the radio and had to write it down.
Sadly I don't know who said it.
I have got to put a sleeve on it for hanging
and its done.

Mystic Metal Wallhanging Planning

As some of you know who follow my blog,
I have been burning and burnishing metal for a while now.
(See previous blog,'burning metal')
This was one of the pieces that has been sat on my work table ready for stitching.
This is often how pieces of work materialise from the studio.
It contains dyed, purchased fabrics and others which I have
printed and adapted.

Gardening

Saturday was spent weeding nearly the entire garden at
Quilters Cottage from the top vegetable garden, down.
Remember we have nearly an acre here and things are growing fast!
We have just got the front to do now!
This is the Japonica (Quince) at the side of the cottage near the front door.
I just love the way nature puts its colours together, with a little help!

Freespirit 2

This one happened after I nipped into town to go to the market
to get some salad for the weekend.
I just love 'blues' as some of you know and
I do have alot of blue dye mixed.
I just loved using my handmade stamps to print with
and rubbed some texture in with oil bars.
This background fabric is now ready to be sandwhiched and heavily quilted.

Freespirit 1

Not teaching this morning so was able to go into the studio.
What to do?
I have been wanting to just paint some fabric.
So I ironed some sheeting and cut it into banner size pieces.
Used some printing tools to add some background details.
Then opened up the jars of dye and mixed in some thickner and let it flow.
This is now ready for a quilt sandwhich and heavy quilting,
again freeform.

Linda's Visit

Linda Turner, another fibre artist came over to visit us at
Quilters Cottage today.
We had a lovely walk and chatted about what we are working on.
Linda's found that the thread she has machine sewn has started to
disappear in certain places and the only thing we could put it down to was the polyester content, the iron being slightly too hot
or the rate at which she is sewing the strips together on the machine!!!!
If anyone else is finding this we would love to know how to solve,
or what it is,
other than use different thread.
We had a lovely lunch and then in the afternoon
Jenn sorted out our computer technical support.
Thank you Jenn for that and thank you Linda for sharing your day.
Love the Aloe Vera plant too.

Conservatory Door Curtain

This is the back door conservatory curtain made of many different blue, white and cream scraps of furnishing fabrics.
I now need to make some curtains for the windows now,
maybe something similar?
This one I made last year.
See more of Quilters Cottage as the year goes on.

Conservatory Shelves

As you know since last week I have been decorating the conservatory.
These are the newly painted shelves with the contents well and truely sorted through.
I felt I needed to go through and have a spring clean of all the recipes and tips that I had gathered and put them in a file.
A chance to sort out the clutter which is always a good thing but sometimes a difficult thing to do.

Lexi Day

Yesterday, Michelle and Lexi came over for the day.
I got the chance to give Lexi a bottle
just before we went for a walk around the woods.
Jenn and I enjoyed our cuddles and catch up with Michelle.
We enjoyed a ladies that lunch in the conservatory as it was
raining off and on all day.
What a lovely time we have!
Friends are so special.

Wedding Card

No Gallery day today as it is closed!
Judy and Haydn got married on Saturday
and are now on honeymoon!
Congratulations to you both!

Racing Hare

As you can see I was spotted and the hare took off,
racing up the hill to her partner.
I moved further up the garden and photographed many more hares enjoying their breakfast.
It is truely magical watching wildlife doing their thing!
Being so early I decided to clean out and paint the conservatory!
Things you do because of Spring!!!!
You really see the dust and the paintwork that needs doing!!!
Well it is another form of painting!!

Morning Hare

Got dressed pretty quick this morning beacause I wanted to catch the hare's on the field behind Quilters Cottage.
We live on a hill so the hares collect at the top and slowly make their way down with the sun.
Stewart's been telling me he has counted at least 18 but there were 12 up this morning
when I crept down the garden with my cup of tea and camera.
This one is clearly washing her face!
Click on the photograph to really see her face!
