Doris started this quilt in September 13 and has now finished. It is her first quilt and
it is a 'Quilt As You Go'. to make it easy to quilt. Doris has decided to do hand and machine techniques.

Samphire Quilters Exhibition 2013

Samphire Quilters Exhibition is held in St Nicholas's Church in
Kings Lynn, every year and is always spectacular.
The amount of quilts and the standard is breathtaking and
the special areas of interest. This year, 'Children's Corner'.
I think we all fell in love with Humpty Dumpty.
There is the Chairman's Challenge, Daphne and her daughter
with their amazing art work and embroidery.
Sian's Fabric and The Members Sales Table.
There are several raffles and Jo was buying a ticket
for The Osteoporosis Quilt, a worthy cause.

Table Runner

Helen has made this Autumnal Table Runner using
The Card Trick pattern in the squares. It is one of those
patterns that look so effective but you have to be
careful of points and how you put it together.
The table mats just add to the collection.
Well done Helen.
Thinking of you :)

Mixed Media Textile Classes

What can I say the variety of items that are being made @ The Gallery is getting more varied as the weeks go on. The 'Show and Tell' is really inspiring and gets everyone wanting to create. I took a picture of one of the tables and as you can see by the items on the table creativity is endless. By the way the table show is used one person. Click to enlarge any of the photographs.

City and Guilds Textiles Begins

On the 28th of March the City and Guilds eight week Level One for Machine Embroidery and Patchwork and Quilting started with me @The Gallery. 19 students all excited and apprehensive started their venture into Textiles Creative Diplomas, (that's the title for these courses and how they are grouped). For eight weeks they will have a taster of different textile techniques related to the skill they have chosen, Machine Embroidery or Patchwork and Quilting. Both have creative fabric decoration and samples to produce as well as a file or sketchbook as a record of what they are learning. I am one of those tutors who prefers to encourage students to make samples and explore techniques then put them in a fabric book rather than in plastic pockets! The books become heirlooms in their own right and are added to regularly. I have seen this with previous students of mine. With two groups technically going on in the same classroom I have to be very organised but what I have found before that there is a cross fertilisation of ideas and techniques between the groups and all benefit because they incorporate skills that they would not necessary try before. It makes for more creative and imaginative work.
The course has now finished with 18 completing the course. It was a fun and very creative eight weeks the photographs of the class and their books on my website. I will post more of the classes as I continue to update my blog.

Sampler Quilt

I love teaching different patterns within Patchwork
and The Sampler Blocks are so good to learn all the
techniques.
I first learnt how to do the Sampler Blocks
in The Shetland Islands over 24 years ago with
the first Sampler Book by Diane Lione.
Lynne Edwards is now famous for The Sampler Quilt
and her books.
Above Judith has completed seven so far and needed
to choose the next patterns and the fabrics to balance
these blocks with the other squares she has already made.
You can either make the sampler out of complete scraps using
plain calico as your background squares or you can
choose and buy your fabrics to match and tone.

Knit Wits Quilt Class 23rd February 2012

The Patchwork and Quilting being created at Knit Wits Classes
is so varied and I love seeing all the different things being made.
I inspire with weekly projects and a monthly topic and
students have their projects that they want to make.
At the top Roz was making Mug Mats for herself, her office and friends.
The picture below shows Ann's striped wall hanging.
Its ready for trimmings and embellishments.

Patchwork Floor Cushion

Mandy finished the patchwork floor cushion
she has been making for her son.
The fabric is mainly upholstery type for sturdiness.
Each square has then been shadow quilted
and looks really effective.
Mandy also made a liner for the small polystyrene
beads to go inside and as we know, they go everywhere!
It took three people to stuff it so they didn't escape.
we had discussions on where to put the zip,
whether on the bottom side or on the bottom in
the middle. If you put it on the side it
has less chance of opening and doesn't scratch a
wooden floor!
Mandy's son is very lucky.
Well done Mandy!
