Patchwork Pillowcases and a Quilt

Textile Classes at The Cancer Care Moving on Unit Dereham,
are going really well and some wonderful items are being made
and shared.
Here, Liz made two more patchwork pillowcases to go with
her daughters quilt which got sent to Australia last year,
 as a Christmas gift.
See the quilt.
You can see the quilt is a King Size and the main colour
was grey a cool colour for the Australian heat.
So we decided on the lilac to add as the accent colour
and it really has done the job.
Well done Liz for such a large project.
It was well received and a Thank you came back
with a very large bunch of flowers.
Appreciation for all that hard work :)
Textile Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays
click the workshop page above for more information.

to lift the cool colours.

Circle Quilt

At City and Guilds Creative Textiles we have been doing
all thing circular these last couple of weeks.
Jenny brought in her Circle Quilt which she had made at a
Summer School Workshop.
It has fantastic piecing.
It's great to see a good label on the back explaining the quilt.
Well done, Jenny and thank you for sharing.

Sampler Quilts in the Making

Eileen and Janet are both using Sampler Quilt Patterns
to make these two very different quilts.
The colours are just wonderful!

textile Thursday is all about Quilting of all different types.
This week it was all about Quilts!
Here HeatherAnne is sharing her Japanese inspired Quilts.
We had a good 'Show and Tell' about how they were made and
what patterns were called and how they were put together.
HeatherAnne had used two different ways of putting the quilts together.
'Quilt as you go' and Whole quilt pinning.
Thank you HeatherAnne for sharing.

Coven Quilters

Monday evening after teaching C&G I went to Coven Quilters. Kate showed us the two quilts she had made for her Grandsons and the backs were as good as the fronts! We always admire the depth of hand work and design Kate puts into her quilts. Joan has finished lots of UFO's and the third photo from the top shows her finished Sampler which we think she started about six years ago! Greta to see it finished and it looked great. Even though The Sampler quilt is a staple in the Quilting world everyone of them are different!
Jane showed her collection of baby quilts she had made and it was her birthday so of course we had birthday cake!
We always have such a wonderful evening and laugh and share throughout the evening. Best wishes for Barbara and Mike.

Barbara's Star Quilt

After our meal we were all feeling so lucky to be together
and on a day time too!
The Riverside had really made a wonderful meal.
I had driven into town and parked at Barbara's,
so we all went in two cars.
After the meal I went back to Barbara's and
she wanted to show me her Star Quilt progress
and ask some tips.
It looks fantastic and I am so proud of
Barbara for being able to crawl all over the
floor and get up again!!! :))

Charm Pack Quilt

Katherine has managed to complete putting her Charm Pack
Quilt together. It looks great and timeless.
It has that aged quilt already. Beautiful.
Its now ready for quilting.

Gallery Day 21st February 2012

It is lovely with 'Show and Tell' when someone brings in
a find or has old textiles.
Barbara brought in this hexagon quilt that is owed
by one of the ladies she works with.
Some of the fabric in it is 1930's and it is a very good
example of a hexagon quilt.
Even though it is used it still needs a backing and
Barbara wanted to know how it could be done.

Crimped Quilt

a
Barbara has really got the hang of quilt making with
recycled materials.
This is her Crimped Cut Edged Quilt, made from
recycled pyjamas and t-shirts.
It is a really cosy quilt and feels so soft.
Well done Barbara!

Silk Quilts and Stitch

Some of my Students come along once a month
to continue their quilt making or enjoy learning
a new technique.
Here Janice shows off her Silk Quilt, a real beauty.
It is made all from triangles and quilted by hand.
Janice is now making a quilted bed runner.

Quilts Making at Knit Wits

The last Thursday Quilting Session of the month is,
'Quilting and Patchwork Quilts'. This session
encourages students to tackle new techniques or Quilts
with help.
Above, are a variety of quilting styles, the top,
the beginning of a Sampler Quilt. Each week you learn
a different block, technique and this particular one is a,
'Quilt as You Go'.
The middle pictures are the start of a Rustic 9 patch,
made from a jelly roll and left over scraps.
It is often wise if you are not sure if your
colours go together, is to lay them together or
make a colour swatch, like the one above.
The Blue Windmill Triangle piece is a Sewing Machine Mat
and practices cutting and piecing triangles.

Textile Tuesday 24th January 2012

Lots being created and shared @ The Gallery,
Textile Tuesday class as you can see by the variety above.
Embellishing inspired by rust!
It's alright making samples and trying out techniques,
then sometimes this leads to you wanting to take it further
and make a finished piece which is what
Jenny wants to do over the next weeks.
Barbara had started cutting small family football shirts and
shorts and found it a bit tricky so cut up
bigger ones instead and made the quilt above.
It has a barbed wire fabric on the back
which makes it really fun.
Now she can tackle the smaller ones.
Pat made the delightful bag out of a Chair back Cover
she found in a charity shop, beautiful!

KNit Wits Class, Quilts

As most people know I love recycling and these students
quilts show it at it's best.
The top one, Adventure Hero's started off from the scraps
of boys bedroom curtains!
They have been cut into blocks and then assembled.
It was supposed to be a quillo but in the excitement of making
became a single bed quilt which it's new owner
just adores!
The Nine blocks are made from recycled fabrics
that a grandmother has made and kept. They have now been
divided into 4 (4 grand daughters).
Each quilt has the same patterning with a blue or yellow
square in each corner.
Borders on all 4 will look stunning and what a
special sentiment and connection.
Warms the cockles of your heart!

Marie's Patchwork Quilt Blocks

Marie has been working away on her blocks for this
quilt for several weeks @The Gallery.
This week was the first time she had laid them out
on a table to see what they look like.
More rows are to be added but it looks
fantastic so far.
The small squares are all different browns and subtle plum.
