Girls Day Out Bag

Helen brought in her bag that her
"Girls Day Out Quilt" goes in.
She made it from all of the scraps left over.
It is so lovely and has the charm of the quilt itself.

The quilt is such a labour of love and beautiful to see.

Coven Quilters

With being at home in the studio all day it's nice to get out in the evening! Two nights on the trot no less! It was our monthly Coven meeting and as usual there was lots to share and show.  The top photograph is Barbara's door curtain, inspired by seeing mine in the cottage and studio and a picture of one in Kaffe Fasset Patchwork Book. Lots of cot quilts this month. Kate told us of her adventures at a Buckingham Palace Garden Party which she had attended the week before and Joan wowed us with her Jubilee Quilt, just in time for The Jubilee weekend celebrations.

Knit Wits Patchwork and Quilting Classes

Thursdays are always busy and unexpected fabrics come in to be made into different projects because I encourage recycling. The top photograph shows a quilt made with recycled patches from another quilt and Mo has added chickens and her grandsons name. The bottom photograph shows the start of a bag made with windmill shaped pieces. The fabric is a recycled suede skirt which already had embroidery panels in it and this Maria used in the design of the bag. It was difficult to sew in places but well worth it as it looks like a designer bag.

Quilts @The Gallery

There is always lots of Quilt Making going on @The Gallery on Mixed Media Tuesday.
Here Jenny is finishing the Dinosaur Quillo for her Grandson and Sylvia is putting the strips together to form a quilt for her Grand Daughter. I love to be part of the process of making quilts for the next generations life.

Knit Wits Quilt Making

Some students at Knit Wits are making a quilts,
so it is taking many sessions to complete.
Jenny is making hers out of recycled fabrics.
Jenny has never made anything this size before so it takes
encouragement from all.
It was lovely this week to be able to lay out
the large blocks and start to join them together to form
the strips. It wont be long now before Jenny is layering her quilt
ready for quilting.

Friday Morning With Barbara

On Friday morning I went to help Barbara,
(one of the Coven Quilters) with
a Star Quilt she had started sometime ago and getting
the pieces out again, she wasn't quite sure how they all go together.
There were strips missing from each piece and picking up a pattern
you have left for a while is always difficult.
A real puzzle!
We laid them out on the floor and it then started to come together.
I laid my original Star Quilt underneath and we began to
concentrate on one side of the quilt.
Three hours later, half the quilt star was assembled.
It will look fantastic.
Barbara hopes to give it as a gift when it is finished.
See my Star Quilt on the right of this post.

Silk Quilts and Stitch

Some of my Students come along once a month
to continue their quilt making or enjoy learning
a new technique.
Here Janice shows off her Silk Quilt, a real beauty.
It is made all from triangles and quilted by hand.
Janice is now making a quilted bed runner.

Quilts Making at Knit Wits

The last Thursday Quilting Session of the month is,
'Quilting and Patchwork Quilts'. This session
encourages students to tackle new techniques or Quilts
with help.
Above, are a variety of quilting styles, the top,
the beginning of a Sampler Quilt. Each week you learn
a different block, technique and this particular one is a,
'Quilt as You Go'.
The middle pictures are the start of a Rustic 9 patch,
made from a jelly roll and left over scraps.
It is often wise if you are not sure if your
colours go together, is to lay them together or
make a colour swatch, like the one above.
The Blue Windmill Triangle piece is a Sewing Machine Mat
and practices cutting and piecing triangles.
