Jamila and Janice

Jamila visited the studio for the first time on Friday 23rd March and helped Janice and myself pin Janice's quilt together ready for quilting. The quilt is an amazing feet of patience. It was a lovely morning and after lunch Jamila showed me her City and Guilds  textile project, a bag which she had designed and woven the fabric and then decorated with at least 100 Dorset Buttons. A beautiful and imaginative design based on the Textile Mills in the North of England. Jamila is finishing her Long Distance C&G shortly, theres all the paper work to file in order! Lovely!!!
I hope to be able to offer long distance City and Guilds course shortly.

Studio Day with Maggie and Kim

As you may know I open my studio throughout
the Summer for Students to come and work.
Most want to use the large table to finish and
bast their quilts.
I usually close my doors in September but
Kim asked me if I would do a special day
for her daughter Maggie to come along and
make something for a Birthday Treat.
(Kim is the Card and Scrapbooking Tutor
@The Gallery).
Maggie is 15 years old and is inspired to
have a career working in textiles.
Kim came along as the taxi driver and to
make some cards in my space!
It was a lovely day and Maggie brought along
Mum's sewing machine and learnt all about it
and got to play on my embroidery machine too!
She will be a fantastic designer you can see that
by her 'Folded Bag' above and visit her

September Studio Day with Judith and Janice

On the 26th of September I had a lovely day in my Studio
with Judith and Janice.
Judith finished off the back of her 8ft by 6ft quilt,
as you can see it fills my quilt table.
We had fun using up every last scrap for the back!
it was almost like making another quilt!
Judith is also finishing off a baby quilt for a gift.
Janice finished putting the triangles together for
her silk quilt and then started putting the sashes around
the centre panel.

Studio Day with Judith and Janice

On Thursday I opened my studio for Janice and Judith
so they could have a Patchwork and Quilting Day.
Janice cut out all her silks into squares last time and sew
and cut them into triangles.
This time she arranged them into the rows and
began sewing the squares together to form the
rows, after we checked there
weren't two triangles directly next to one another.
On the 8ft table,
Judith was putting the borders on her quilt top
and then started piecing the fabric and scraps
together to form a backing.
I worked them both very hard that day!
but they loved it!!!

Studio Day with Judith

On Friday Judith came along to Quilters Cottage for
a Studio Day,
to finish her large double quilt.
The corners had to inset and the borders were
put on.
She also learnt how to use her new sewing machine.
Very nice one too!
She wanted advice on how to quilt a baby quilt
that she is making for her Niece in Spain.
So learnt how to do free machine quilting.
I think she will be straight stitching this quilt this time
and then practicing some more.
I tell everyone it takes practice.
We don't just get in a car and start driving it.
We have lessons and practice.
Skills of any description take time and practice!
We had a lovely day but sadly it was a little
to cold to sit on the veranda and have lunch.
