Sara has been coming to the Textile Tuesdays since
September and she is preparing herself for
a Fashion an Textiles Course which she hopes to start next year.
You have to show that you can prepare work,
designs and sketchbooks,
before going on the course.
Here Sara is adding more layers of print, papers, textiles
and layers to her sketchbook pages.

Purple Textile Items

On Wednesday 7th of September I had a
studio day and made several pieces to add to
the items I needed to show at the new classes.
I made a needlecase, sketchbook cover, folded bag
and a sample of striped textile for another case.
I have really enjoyed having a 'Makey Day', with
these colour combination.

Making a Journal

I normally start a new sketchbook at the start of a New Year
but this year I wanted to try something different and make my own,
using the skills I use with my gift books and years of sketchbooking.
(see my Decembers video post)
I also love the journal pages of Teesha Moore so
followed her instructions and made my own journal
and had some fun cutting out pictures and journaling in a
Goal Journal.
I am putting down ideas and inspiration for 2011.
Thank you to Teesha, this inspiration started my creativity going
due to the flu flooring me!
See Teesha's how to technique videos on her site.

Sketchbook Garden Page

Yesterday, I wasn't able to do 'The Gallery Tuesday', due to a hospital appointment.
Scans and tests later, feel a relief and was looked after really well.
So today I needed to re-group mentally,emotionally.
Stewart treated me to an ipod yesterday and Jenn helped me sort out some music today.
Rang friends and caught up with my sketchbook.
I had piled up alot of goodies to stick in,
so this morning I had fun painting, sticking and glueing,
really fun and releasing!
Feebie, 'The Flower Lady' called this morning too! with her plants in her van.
We live rurally so have many little vans that call with plants,
fish, meat and the fish and chip van beeps!when there here.
Feebie always seems to know when the time is right.
I brought some plants for the flower garden and strawberries for the greenhouse, enjoyed being ouside.
Here is the sketchbook page after my planting.
Feel lucky to be creative and enjoy what ever you are doing because you can!

A Page from Pat's Altered Book.

These are the first pages inside Pat's altered book. As you can see she has used many creative mixed media techniques. Pat's page on the left are inspired by Japenese Silks and Brocades.

Just beautiful.

and for more inspiration of the work I share and teach visit my website

Pat's Altered Book Cover

Pat had begun her altered book ideas with Marion, the artist who takes the evening session on a Tuesday evening at The Gallery. During a morning session Pat discussed ways in which to finish the front of her book cover and how she could use ribbon and organzer. We looked at some of the inspiration I had brought with me and Pat then went away and attached her front cover, making and attaching the flowers, which as you can see are just beautiful. This book is now complete and the pages are all creative and inspirational inside. This is Pat's second altered book.

Inside the front Cover

Inside my newly covered sketchbook for March 2010. It feels pristine at the moment so I will show you what it looks like in the future with my creativity of 'sticking and glueing'.

Embellished Sketchbook Finished Cover

Today I spent hours at the sewing machine doing the embellishing stitch patterns. This has given the embellished felt a hard wearing surface, ideal for the work I put my notebooks through. It feels all new and pristine at the moment! I'll show you what it looks like at regular intervals so you can spot the differences.

New Sketchbook Cover

This is the base of my cover for my new sketchbook. Yes! I am onto another sketchbook so I want it's cover to be inspirational rather than the hard black one it has at the moment.

I've got more machine stitching to do, the hand stitching and then the attaching to the sketchbook. Do you like the gilding foil?

Chain Braid Stitch Page

At the moment I am participating in a crazywork round robin, so I was revisiting different embroidery stitches. This has inspired me to form a book of stitches. Making the pages interesting to look at in the future. This page was inspired by Beryl Taylors Book, Mixed Media Exploratons.
Beryl Taylors website is http://www.beryltaylor.com/

Chain Braid Stitch Sample

Chain Braid Stitch 2

Now you can see that the thread is twisted around the bottom of the needle and it has already in the chain loop.

Chain Braid Stitch 1

It is always good to learn new things and come out of your comfort zone!
So today I leant a new stitch.Ooh you might say but I enjoyed the researching and threads!
I belong to http://www.stitchinfingers.ning.com/ which is a wonderful site for sharing and being inspired.

On this site there are different groups one being "Take a Stitch on Tuesday", I know it's Friday but I've had a busy week.
Sharon Bloggon organises the stitch and kindly demonstrates it on her website
http://www.pintangle.com/

This weeks stitch is 'Chain Braid Stitch' not as easy as it looks and you can end up with knots!

I found that making the loop before I got the needle involved! far easier. The thread as you can see is twisted in a loop behind. Important otherwise you just get a knot after knot!(I speak from experience).

1st Studio Days of 2010

I got into my logcabin studio on Monday 4th Jan for the first time of the New Year. Here is are the pages from my sketch book. I began finishing the ATC (Artist Trading Cards) for my friendship swap that I wanted to start that evening. I belong to several groups, The Coven Quilters being one of them. We meet each month to sew, share, put the world to rights and laugh. It was our celebration New Year meal. We each took a dish to share, it was wonderful and so delicous.
