Monday Quilts

On Monday I put the borders and the border batting and backing
fabric on The Sampler Quilt.
I also made a Hungry Caterpillar quilt top out of
the panels and fabric I had left over from making my first
Hungry Caterpillar Quilt.

Wayland Community High School Watton

On Thursday in my role as Norfolk Community Artist I
went to Wayland Community High School at Watton to be
part of the 'Transition Day'.
140 Students moving from Junior Schools around
the Watton area to High School.
It is an activity day to accustom students to the High School.
I am the Art Tutor for this event and
the school wanted me to put on the
'Hungry Caterpillar' moving art boards
for the 140 students to make.
WOW!
As you can see by the photos above they had a wonderful day
with all the events and I like to Thank
the students, staff and Sue for such a great day.
I love teaching large numbers and seeing everyone
waving their art work around it just fantastic.
They even did the Caterpillar Wave!

Caterpillars on Parade Again

Its been such a busy week.
I am doing catch up blogging!
Over the weekend Stewart and I
went to Feltwell for it's annual Village Yard sale.
I really hadn't realised how big the village was.
There were 80 sales all round the village and they were
raising money for St Mary's.
On the way round we saw Yvonne Brown among other
friendly faces and she showed us round
her new Eco home her and her husband has just
designed and built. It is all finished and is beautiful.
With hemp walls!
Around the sales I picked up several clothes airers,
(to dry dyed fabrics on), several pieces of jewellery,
books and a warning triangle for the car!
A strange sort of mixture, but that's what
yard sales are!
When we got home after a lovely lunch
I started packing up the caterpillars and finished
glueing the images onto to card.
It's caterpillar season again, over 250 done so far!

Hungry Caterpillar Quilt

I told you I brought some fabrics from Knit Wits,
I brought the panels and some of the matching fabric.
Well, here is the results. A very colourful Caterpillar Quilt.
I used the bug fabric squares that are forming the border.
I had been saving for just
such a quilt!
I love it as it is a refreshing change.
It was a challenge and I think all panel quilts can be
to make an individual Quilt from them.

Caterpillar

When I got home I needed a cup of tea and sat in
the conservatory with the door open as the weather
was sunny again.
Look who came in the door!
A very fluffy caterpillar!
I must start learning which ones are to which
butterfly or moth.

Litcham Caterpillars

I went to Litcham High School on Wednesday
in my role as a Breckland Community Artist.
I hadn't been to Litcham for many years, a beautiful Norfolk Village,
about 25 minutes from Quilters Cottage.
There was a select group of artists
who all enjoyed making there Caterpillas!

Swaffham Caterpilar Art Session

I was at Swaffham Community Centre on Wednesday morning.
The centre is really modern and light with lots of facilities available.
This was a Caterpilla Art Board Session with a small group.
They all made their Caterpilla's and most enjoyed it but
as I found out not everyone enjoys a focussed art session
Caterpilla's or completing a project!
The first one in over 200 Caterpilla's made throughout
Norfolk.

Caterpillar

Well would you believe it?
Look what laid on our doorstep on Thursday.
A Hawk Moth Caterpillar.
It was huge.
I took this picture with it sat on a large laurel leaf on Stewart's hand.
Seems ironic with all the 'Hungry Caterpilla' workshops
I have been giving, more workshops next week.
We have seen the moth in the evening in the Summer,
over several years so they must like the garden.

Attlebrough Art Session

I was over at Attlebrough High School yesterday in my role as a
Breckland Artist. The Arts Development Officer, Sam Dawson
was with me to see what a session was like and lend a hand.
We were in the art room so were surrounded by inspiration and colour.
As you can see the children enjoyed their morning and were continuing
Summer School the rest of the afternoon and week.
I think Sam enjoyed herself too!

Catepilla's on Parade

These Hungry caterpilla's are on Parade ready for tomorrows workshop. I now have over 20 children attending, so have had to put together a lot more pack ups. This is the reason for all these cheeky caterpilla's. I have had such fun preparing the different theme boards.

The Hungry Caterpilla

This is one of the new boards I have made to demonstrate the different techniques that can be used on the art boards. I have used lots of recyled elements and some of the new goodies!
As you can see it is based on one of my favourite stories I used to read to Jenn and at school.
The Hungry Caterpilla is cut out of a napkin and glued to card.
The flowers move and the ladybird goes up and down her leaf.
I will show you some of the others as I re- furbish them adding more elements of movement.
Children can be very keen critics about techniques
and they have to be do- able, really quickly.
