Lace and the Cloth

Janet has made several table runners,
this week she showed us one she has made the lace for all round it and
the lace inserts are made using water soluble fabric.
It is truly beautiful.
I love all things lace and constantly using the pieces I have inherited.
I must admit though some pieces I just want to stoke and admire.
I have recently purchased some antique pieces and will show
you the hanging pockets I am making to store all my lace treasures in.

Coven Lunch

Every year The Coven Quilters have a celebration meal,
to celebrate that we are all together and bring in a new year.
This year we decided to eat out and have our meal at
lunch time!
The Riverside Restaurant is in Kings Lynn.
Near The Arts Centre.
We love getting together and it always makes our week.
This month like any other there is a birthday,
this month it was Barbara W.
I got the girlies to pass the keepsake cushions around
and sign the back with messages.

Photo Keepsakes

On Monday 20th of February I got into my studio
and finished making the Photo Transfer Lace Keepsakes
that I wanted to make the girls of Coven Quilters.
The idea being I would
present them at our Yearly Dinner.
Paddy took our yearly photo on Kate's sofa in January and
I knew I wanted to make something from it to remember
as I have been teaching photo transfer for the last month.
The lace background is all bits of lace, curtains, silks,
satins, ribbon and wool free machined down around the
photo and then made into a cushion filled with lavender
and stuffing.
I was really pleased and signed them all on the back.
The idea being all the girls could sign each one as
it went round the table while we were waiting for our meal.
Making a very special Keepsake.
It was lovely all week knowing we would be meeting for lunch.
We normally meet in the evening!
I'll post photos later.

Using the Lace

With Lace and Embellishments being some of the inspiration
this month these items use the it in different ways.
The cushion uses the lace that Jane had painted the previous
week. It looks really chic.
Sara had been trying to decorate the lace folded purse
in class the previous week and it took some
working out.
It is based on a Japanese Purse which I translated and
made my version of decorating.
See a video from an Australian lady
on my tech site making her version.

Lace Painting @The Gallery

I am encouraging students to dye and colour different
types of fabrics and trimmings, so they can have a palette
of textiles and embellishments to work with.
The laces were painted, sponged and sprayed
with various paints, inks and dyes.
The underneath papers and fabrics can be as interesting
as the pieces you are colouring.
Doubling your mediums!

Madame Francais Wall Hanging

This is another project that has been in sections on my work table
over the Christmas Holidays and today was the day to finish it.
I always try and show different inspiration at classes, so
there's the black, white and red bag
(See previous post HERE)
and then there is the
Wall Hanging called 'Madame Francais'.
I stamped the image on prepped fabric and then
appliqued the other elements on.
Lots of jewelry pieces put together to make
decorative elements and a beaded hanging chain.
Lots of inking and tweaking to the finish today.

Kim showed us lots of ways of folding cards,
using different sizes.
Kim also brought in lots of inspirational papers,
I chose the lace ones!
It was good to be card making again,
Thank you Kim!

Lace Christmas Cornucopias

Still busy making and finishing gifts for close friends.
Above are some lace Victorian inspired cornucopias.
They each contain little gifts and a Christmas flower arrangement.
Christmas is all about family, friends and an open heart.
I just love the Christmas Season but there is never enough time.
It doesn't matter when you start!
I start in August making Christmas items for classes
so I have inspiration for my students!
Hope everyone has a lovely time!

Victorian Lace Favours

Every month there is a different Inspiration Topic
and then within that each week there is different
inspirational projects.
I love traditional Christmas Gifts and Favours.
Here is my version of a Victorian Lace Tree Favour
except mine is larger and can hang on a wall.
I made mine larger because I wanted
to incorporate a Gozo Lace Collar that I
brought when we were on holiday in
Cyprus seven years ago.
It is made out of a linen waffle dish cloth
with layers of lace, some of which comes from
lace net curtains!
and parts of Christmas Ornaments.
The photo at the bottom is students work
inspired by my lace projects.

Lace Folded Purses

Students have been making several of my inspired projects
over the last couple of weeks as gifts for
Christmas.
Several have been enjoying making the Folded Purses.
These photos show Sylvia's at the top, finished.
The middle one shows several at different stages
and Pat is just starting to decorate her strip
of fabric ready for folding.

Lace Folded Purse Makes

I always try and show different inspiration each week
and this week I was inspired by some lace Irene had
given me and some beautiful upholstery fabric I had been
treasuring.
I had seen on You Tube a video put on by a lovely
Australian lady and I made mine but with
alterations and some tweaks in the method.
As you can see the Textile Class had a great time
and it opened everyones mind boxes with
the origami!!!
