Jeanette's Time Book

As some of you know who have been following my blog for some time I encourage making mixed media pieces and making them into pages for books. This way you can sample a technique or investigate a subject and use all the unusual treasures you collect and put them into an object you can enjoy time and time again. Time was the topic Jeanette chose for her pages and the end result is above.

Batiks and Beads

I also loved the stall of Maryke Philips at Chilford.
She has a wonderful range of dyed silks, batiks and
patterns to make unusual wall hangings and bags.
Above, is a picture of her stitch book which
I just loved and she allowed us to turn and devour the pages
with our eyes!
I have a sample stitch book/ file that I made
when I did my City and Guilds. I would like
to make one like this though with all the lovely
threads and fabrics which are around now.
This week I took it along on 'Textile Tuesday',
to show the groups and it reminded me of
what I had learnt and still use.

Sew Wild Alisa Burke

I wasn't feeling top notch on Tuesday as I sometimes
had to double take what we were making and
also ran into a blank when ladies turned up with
no idea what they wanted to make.
Sometimes I think they think I am Magic!!!
So Wednesday I took a day off!
I normally go to Scrap Booking this Wednesday
but I knew with tummy ache and feeling off colour it would
not be sensible. I took a quilt to the sofa and a cup of tea.
Sometimes you must listen to your body!
I really don't like sitting but didn't feel good to do anything.
I was lucky though because look what turned up in
the post in the morning?
Alisa Burke's 'Sew Wild'.
A wonderful book for textile marking and expression.
Alisa covers lots of techniques and there is a DVD that
comes with it. I watched this and then found a
You Tube video of her being interviewed.

Cover Finished

Yesterday evening I finished the cover and added a few pages
to the mixed media 'Thou Art' Book.
One of the pages is made up of Italian Lace
that was in a bag of trimmings someone gave me
when they were having a sort out.

by clicking HERE
I will keep making pages and then arrange and
secure them in.

Thou Art Mixed Media Book

This is the start of the Mixed Media Book I have called
"Thou Art".
Base on a Scottish Proverb I found,
"What ev'r thou art,
act well thy part".
I began the piece of work by collecting the materials together
from around my studio and then began by
layering items onto an antique lace tray cloth.
You could use a lace handkerchief etc.
This I backed with Hobbs wadding (batting) and
then began sewing and sticking the layers of items on to
the tray cloth.
this is going to be the cover.
I managed to make a few pages and will continue to add.
I will take photos and post as I go.
